Oh Shaft those Soundwave's are magnificent & Cro that Whirl & Cyclonus are too!

This is one of my favorite G1 characters & as a kid. I remember I didn't get a Wheeljack for my birthday as my Mum just couldn't find it in stores anywhere, so I got a Skywarp instead. Well I have my Wheeljack now so better late than never right?!

There is a certain charm of seeing G1 Transformers in a just put on the shelf condition, it does bring back so many happy memories of the 1980's!

Ok, here is a good example of kind of a crappy AFA. 60 Cyclonus

Take a look at Cromagnus's version (above) and it will help illustrate the differences. Even though it is only a 60 I can still appreciate this figure due to it being an original and not a KO and it still looks pretty good! If anyone is curious I paid about $200 and then sold it on the open market for $150 post grading thus proving that AFA does not always enhance the value of a figure (grading cost around $90).

That's a good point you made there Ark. An AFA cased figure doesn't have to cost thousands at all if you have a budget. You can have some nice cased G1's that still look good like that Cyclonus & wont cost you an arm & 2 legs! I wanted a graded Soundwave when I first got into this hobby but wasn't paying thousands for one so I picked up this 70. Looks better than a 70 which was great as it was very reasonably priced. It is after all a toy we're buying not a number on a label ;)

How does AFA recognize signed material when grading a boxed figure (do they even recognize/notate the signature in the grading, ignore it, or does the signature count against the grading)?

I remember seeing something on this on their website, where they said that in their view the signature does negatively change the item, so it appears that it counts against the grading.

I have to admit: I'd like to see an AFA-graded/MISB G1 Optimus signed by Peter Cullen.

Great stuff guys. I especially like seeing those prerub TFs in TM boxes. I don't own any graded pieces but I did recently order some minibot cases from AFA that I plan on using to display a few of my Huffers with.

That's very close to what I was inquiring about, except in this case it's MP Prime.

I want to say that was a Chinese release, but can't confirm. My knowledge is dwindling as of late.

I actually like seeing the <80 specimens as well - having seen plenty of MISB stuff that's been beat to hell and back, even a 60 Cyclonus doesn't look that bad. Sure, the >85 stuff is amazing, but don't hide the other stuff :D  I'd like to have a Skywarp and Thundercracker one day, and sub-75 is probably the best I'll be able to or want to afford
