wanting a Titan Class TRYPTICON please hasbro!! PLEASE HASBRO!!! you know you can do it!! You have the character design already to go from the war for cybertron/fall of cybertron games, please grant us all this special wish! Even if you have to do a pre order purchase first to get the numbers or something like that. I'm sure every fan out there would love this to come true!!!
They probably wont until they know how Metroplex sells. They can from a design standpoint, but can they from a retail point? Will the stores want it?
If Metroplex is an instant high seller/sell out even then Trippy will make sense at some point down the road......if Metro sits on shelves holding other shelves up and going on deep discount......then no. Simple really.
Honestly, I foresee Metroplex being a shelf warmer. He's huge, expensive, and is essentially a hollow box, isn't he? I see him going the way of that Prime Optimus Maximus armor thing.
Please learn proper thread titleing etiquette. A better title for this thread would be "I'd like to see a Titan Class TRYPTICON" or "Wouldn't it rock is there was a Titan Class Trypticon". That sort of thing...
I don't think Metroplex is expensive. Lots of people pay that much for two 3rd party figures that are deluxed sized (or 3 Legends sized figures, see Scouting Force); lots of people paid that $70-$90 for Armada Unicron when it first came out, and it's tiny compared to Metroplex; in Canada, 20th Anniversary Optimus was $100 and I had a hard time finding it. I've still yet to see the latest MP Optimus at TRU, and he's priced at $100. As for Optimus Maximus, he's shelfwarming at $20 at my local Winners. I'd take the 1 "hollow box" of Metroplex over 6 "honeycomb box" Maximus anyday. And yes, I'd buy a Titan Class Trypticon if he's a good representation of G1 Trypticon...I didn't buy that Legends repaint of CYB-Scourge.
You can't compare the 2, Optimus Maximus was a $30-40 POS made of rubbery plastic with zero transformation/articulation.
I just hope that everyone realizes that we all have a deep moral obligation and duty to go out and buy every Metroplex that we find to perpetuate the titan class figures. Almost like retail robot sex.
If you really want to see Titan class Trypticon, you're probably going to have to give your full support to metroplex. For the rich Trypticon fans out there, probably best you buy two metroplexes!
Yeah I definitely want to see Trypticon, even if its the WfC design. But yeah, I guess we'll see how we'll Metroplex sells before I get my hopes up.
But third party and the MPs are specifically geared toward collectors. So, yeah, maybe they'll sell in that respect, but I think Hasbro plans on marketing this guy to kids mostly. Obviously, we don't know a whole lot about him yet, and maybe Optimus Maximus was a bad comparison, but it could also go the way of RotF Devastator. Parents just aren't willing to shell out that much money for a kid's toy.
I think it'd work. But he'd have to be the ship instead of a city. Also, anyone else going to show their Abominus and other Cyberverse Decepticons fighting Metroplex?
I'm still a little worried about Metroplex regardless. Sure, Hasbro is going to market Gen Metroplex towards casual kids, but I have a feeling 95%+ of kids today don't know who Metroplex is. The ones that do are ones whose mommy and/or daddy (and/or older family member) has a G1 Metroplex. The Cybertron generation would probably not like it because it's not a giant construction vehicle. The ones who's signed up to the various message boards would know, due to various threads like this. Hopefully enough kids with no history with this modern Metroplex can wear down their parents to get one because it's a huge toy. I'm waiting till he shows up on store shelves, and sees kids' reaction to him. Since Armada, I've watched kids get their parent(s) to buy Mini-Cons to voyager-class figures, I've seen kids look at the various Unicrons, but never seen one successful in getting their parent(s) to take it to the cash register. Unlike Star Wars' modern AT-AT which is also a huge toy, it's been reissued and/or repackaged a couple of times (I miss the vintage one I had as a kid), I'm sure kids got them because Hasbro keeps selling it and it's more familar than Metroplex. Thus I'm hoping the Collector community is large enough to ensure enough Metroplexes is sold. Because it's not that expensive in the grand scheme of all we collect. Ie 8 deluxe figures at regular price is $120-$140 depending on where you are. Titan Class Trypticon might sell better because kids love dinosaurs. But we need to make sure Hasbro can see the dollar signs from enough Metroplexes are sold.
You know who might be an interesting comparison to Metroplex? Power Rangers Zeo Pyramidas. Both huge and (as far as I can remember, up there in price). Anyone remember how well he sold?
