Basically, TFs you own that will never be in alt-mode. Maybe the transformations are too complicated, the robot modes too good, or the alt-modes too shitty... but these are TFs that, for all intents and purposes, are Action Masters to you. This topic was inspired by FoC Kickback. The transformation is clever, but a bit annoying... which is a problem when the alt-mode is... just bad. Just... just... bad.
I'd say my MP-02. I'm not saying his alt mode is bad as others have said, but his robot mode looks too badass. He's been on display in robot mode for years now
Besides my G1 Autobots, Soundwave, and gestalt limbs, I keep most of my TFs in robot mode. The only exceptions are this one custom Classics Dirge I made (since Gen. Dirge is in bot mode) and maybe a few more.
Kreons. Mainline-wise, I always transform everyone and keep them in either mode for some time. But Leader Jetfire, Cyberverse Prime Megatron, RotF Soundwave, and Voyager The Fallen don't really stay in alt mode that long. Jetfire's a pain to get into jet mode (which is positively gargantuan and barely even fits in Jetfire's shelf), while the others just have lackluster alts (even though the actual transformations are satisfying).
Beast Wars Nightglider. Yeah, I gush about him all the time, but he's fix-posed in squirrel mode, and he's just really poseable in robot mode.
Armada Unicron - Not that I can't, he's just too big and I don't really have any need for him to be in planet mode. His chest cannon also has a hairtrigger so it deploys if you shake the figure enough, so much that the mini-con port on his back which is supposed to deploy is has never actually had a mini-con attached. ROTF The Fallen - Cybertronian destroyer my ass, that alt. mode really just doesn't do it for me. Then again, I generally do not like this toy in general and only own it because I need a Fallen for my collection and I have the worst luck in trying to find the superior Titanium version. Chevy Aveo Swerve - Ironically, I tracked this guy down simply because the fact his alt. mode was rather generic and appealed to me. However, he hasn't seen alt. mode in years due to his unique robot mode. ROTF Mixmaster - no explanation needed.
Alt Grimlock- I was torn on this one seeing as I'm a Mustang nut, but after getting him and trying to transform him once only to find out I somehow cracked one of his rear bumpers. He ended up staying in robot mode, which is fine since I've got plenty of Hot Wheels Mustangs lying around. Plus I just love his robot mode. Alt Tracks- After getting him out of car mode and seeing how many dang tabs there were I didn't even try. May one day, but it won't be any time soon. Armada Bendy Prime- He's just to awesome to leave in his truck mode. What also helps is the fact that the arms on mine never tabbed that well into the cab of the truck. BWII Thrust- Never really cared for the way he looked in his jet mode so just left him as is. BW TM Scarem- It's not that his robot mode is bad, it's just really hampered by his joints. Plus mine has an issue where the legs refuse to stay pegged together so he always ended up slumping down like he was doing a double split.
RtS Perceptor: My word...I barely got him into robot mode, I shall not be trying again! RotF Skids and Mudflap deluxes: Love the robot modes, love the characters....just no... That's honestly it so far. =/ I don't even find leader sentinel or leader prime to be that difficult to warrant not transforming them.
Well I don't transform most figures very often, but with some I promptly decide "never again." -WfC Optimus: Just...more trouble than it's worth. -FoC Kickback: I like the idea of his alt mode, not so much the execution. -Amazon Unicron: The alt mode is a pain in the butt to get right with his size and it doesn't look good and it doesn't display well. And I don't like keeping the planet halves on his back anyway. Of course, then there is Generations Darkmount, whose back rail for his kibble half broke, so I removed the kibble halves and turned him into an actual Action Master. But it actually looks rather ugly because of his bright red ball shoulders. You'd think there would be more of the super-fiddly movie toys here, but even with Mixmaster or Striker Optimus whatever mode they aren't in just looks so GOOD that I'm always tempted to transform them eventually. Ditto Leader Starscream, but he might have been Action Mastered by a break in his articulated chest, which is nearly invisible in bot mode but would cause problems transforming.
Leader ROTF Movie Megatron as he looks daft in tank mode. I don't think I'll ever bother Transforming Unicron or Death-Star Darth Vader again big balls only hold so much joy.
Any figure that doesn't come boxed as Alt mode.....I rarely handle them anyways. That being said I do think an eventual Ark crew at MP scale would look awesome in alt mode.
Ah yes, Unicron. Just too much work for a not-even-close-to-spherical alt-mode. Though I do love the munching action...
I almost never transform my figures. I'll do it once or twice, and then they're pretty much staying in one mode forever. Just too much of a time drain. There are an awful lot of figures I own that I've never even transformed once.
I don't transform my figures that often, but I do occasionally. My action masters are: WFC Optimus Prime, nightmare transformation FE Prime Optimus Prime, the robot mode just looks too good.
ROTF Jetfire. Never transformed him, never wanted to... especially now that Fans Want It have a Jet Power Upgrade Set coming out for Leader Prime. Oh, and Movie Masterpiece Starscream, because he needed repair work that unfortunately prevents him from transforming properly. Of the hundreds I own, those are the only two that fit your criteria... although the vast majority of my collection very rarely sees alt. mode.
Pretty much all of them. The robot forms (usually) take up far less space than the alt modes for display purposes. Plus, they're robots after all. Gotta show off those lovely character designs!
