Anyone else worried that Metroplex will be a terrible figure? (bad 'ultimate' figs)

So of course initial knee-jerk response to the giant Metroplex reveal is 'of effin yeah, giant Metroplex! largest TF ever!!'...

But given the precedent set by Hasbro for large scale TFs in the past 5+ years, and some evidence of a wirey, hollow frame from the pics, I am worried that what has the potential to be the best figure of the year may well end up being one of the worst.

Precedent of large TFs done bad:
ultimate BB. Far worse, TF Animated ultimate Optimus. DOTM ultimate Optimus. The weaponizers. Optimus Maximus. When you look at it, almost every large-size TF Hasbro has done in recent years has been an absolute stinker. Even leader-size figures tend to be bricks with limited posability and complexity compared to voyager and deluxe sizes (i.e. rotf jetfire, almost every leader with electronics). But bottom line: the really big ones have been really bad.

    'hollow' base-formers syndrome:
I worry that Metroplex's being a base-former will work against him, as much as I like the G1 Metroplex, in a remake having a little more going on in the transformation/complexity would certainly be nice. But it looks from the pics like he maintains the 'push down head, fold out legs, you're done' idea, hopefully there's more to it then that but looking like maybe not. This means we could have a 2 foot TF that is essentially an upscaled Optimus Maximus. They both sort of have that hollow wirey look (for metroplex esp. in the legs). If he's going to be a 2 foot beast, he needs to be solid, strong (plastic quality as with all releases lately will be an issue, if the plastic is too thin/cheap (i.e. the new MP Prime), he will be shaky and flimsy), and sturdy.

So 'OMG fan spooge WOW WOW take my money now' and all that about a potentially exciting release, but if we're being reasonable about it don't we have pretty big basis for worry about 'the biggest transformer ever' when large TFs have been done so majorly horrendously?

He looks good to me. I think he is better than all the references you mentioned.

I am not worried at all. That we're getting one and he's as big as he is in this price point gives me confidence. If I look at other premium Hasbro products in this price range and scale (millennium falcon redo) I am pretty confident.

Yeah, but he actually looks good on my first impression seeing him. The other figures you listed have always looked horrible to me. And the hollowness is somewhat justified given what his alt mode has to be, and even then I'm not seeing Optimus Maximus-tier hollowness from the toy shown at Toy Fair.

The only thing I'm worried about is the posability, really.

This. It's so early to tell anything really.

Also just like to point out Amazon exclusive Unicron debunks the "large scale TFs are disappoint" theory.

I'm fully expecting many of the problems that go along with large size figures. Of course he's going to be hollowed out in at least the torso and arms. Posability will probably be somewhat restricted.

The thing is, none of that matters.

All I require him to do is stand there and look epic. Or maybe sit there in city mode as a display for legends figures.

Also, what really sucked about the examples you list is that they were oversized. No one ever wanted them to be that big. And they were totally outclassed by smaller cheaper versions of the same character. With a city-former, this isn't going to be the case.

Would you guys really have expected him to be solid plastic? Every Transformer I own is hollow. I think people are just being pants on head ******ed.

I'm only worried about the poseability working against him.

TBH I'm not sure about him myself... looks to be the same kind of quality that Cyberverse Optimus Maximus is... and seemingly almost as hollow. Aestetics look too much like that set too... which I don't quite like.

IDK why it's called FoC Metroplex when clearly it's G1-inspired moreso than FoC.

I'm worried he'll have no effin' backside like FoC Grimlock or some other ASSpect that causes it to suck like all the other shitty FoC figs. Grimlock looked sweet in the promo pics, too. But it looks like it has potential so we'll see...

No way. Optimus Maximus is so hollow, it's literally see-through.

agreed. he looks pretty solid. and IMO, his hollow-looking legs are justifiable due to the fact that they become ramps in city mode for the little guys

Not worried. He looks exactly as he is expected to be. A BF base-former.

You could tell Optimus Maximus was going to be a bust from the start even in pictures.

Well, if anything, he'll be worth lots on the secondary market. We all remember how awful RotF Devy was, and look at the prices he's going for now...
