I can certainly see the points you make, and I certainly can't say that it's a "bad" figure (I wouldn't have a troop of them if I though so). I just read your posts, and it's as if you're touting your opinion as "fact". You're even saying that this is all "black and white" when it's really not, since we're discussing opinions here.

Hopefully I can clear some of this up.

The figures chosen have to have been released some time at retail during the year (in this case, 2012). For example, I did not vote on MP-10, since the figure came out last year. I did not vote for the Hasbro version because I don't have that version, and mainly because my choice (MP Lambor) was the better figure in my opinion. Release date is dependent on actual release date and first sighting, not simply when I am able to actually own the figure. For instance, if a figure comes out during 2012, but I can only buy it sometime in 2013, I wouldn't count it in my choices.

As far as Kre-O, it's an official Hasbro product.

Each Staff member is free to pick their choice of which figure they think is "best" for them. If it happens to be the same figure, then that's what it'll be. Typically, while there are some runaway favorites, there's enough variety to make for an interesting read one way or another.

I hope that answers some questions.

As much as you (mods) like partaking in this thread i enjoy reading it. Always refreshing to read 10 or so positive, articulated and differing opinions all in a row like that. And all on topic!

I don't collect the Prime line but i will track down a Vechicon now. I knew it was a great figure but to see many list it right up there in a few top 5's and beside my favourite picks makes me think it must be alright.

I'm not saying anything's a fact. It's just common sense when you weigh up all the factors that RID Vehicon is an incredible figure for it's size, price-point, design and mainstream availability. Facts? He's been selling out all over the world. That's not opinion.

Hasbro gets a lot of shit from us lot, but when they get something so right we gotta be equal with praise as we are with poison, so to speak. That's all I'm trying to get out there.

...I mean, you've got some dude there picking a BotCon exclusive [read: repaint] as a "figure of the year" ...really? This list is a bit like the Oscar's, you get these "elite" group of folks picking the weirdest stuff that's forgotten in a few years, yet these classic figures live on through the mainstream. Bruticus isn't a figure, it's five of them and MP-10 isn't available to many TFW fans over the world and/or completely out of the price-range for most folk. I mean, these lists are fun and you don't want to get bogged down by having to equate economic and social factors for transformers figures, Haha... I love these lists... but sometimes coming down from the mountain isn't bad thing to do.

I was just surprised Vehicon didn't really dominate the list, I guess he did in a 'runner up' way.

I'm really not sure if you're reading how you're posting or if you just don't see it. Three posts in a row now you've attempted to belittle anyone else with an opinion that differs from yours. If we don't agree with you we either "must not know what [we're] talking about" and now it's "just common sense"? Really?

Again, I agree with you the Prime Vehicon is a great figure, certainly one of the gems of a mediocre line. But as important as G1Soundwave? It just seems like you're overstating your opinion since there are those who differ from your own.

If you disagree with my choice and/or another Staff member, that's totally cool (and welcomed, as it makes for good discussion). However, if you want any of us on this board to value and consider your opinion, I'd just suggest you consider how you're coming across here. I mean, I've really enjoyed what everyone has posted this far, even if I disagree with choices. I just have a hard time placing value on member's post when they come across this way.

I have to go with Vehicons. The main line version is what all collectors should be unanimously able to point to and scream to Hasbro....THIS is how to do it!!!

QC issues keep knocking down my opinion on MP Prime. TRU playing scalpers on the price didn't help matters.

Other favorites... SDCC Zombie Cliffjumper, FOC Shockwave, PRIME Dreadwing, Ratchet, both Bulkheads and Optimi, Wheeljack Thundertron, and even Arcee. Not a whole lot I didn't like, but then again, there never is.

I think Biggs has a really interesting thesis, and I'll eagerly await to see how it pans out, as far as future engineering and all that. But, there isn't anything inherently wrong with picking an MP as figure of the year. The admins also aren't "elites," just folks with opinions like us. This thread is for fun.

    Masterpeice optimus prime
    Masterpeice thundercracker
    Prime rid vehicon
    Those I own.including what I don't own
    Mp 11 Starscream
    Mp sideswipe
Other figures I do like from the year like combaticons and prime rumble, but those don't belong at the very top of the list

I think mp prime is going to win this one
With vehicon being a close second (can't get over how cool that unspecified car mode is lol)

Anyone who "can't take anyone seriously as a fan or a collector" for a dumb reason can't be taken seriously as a fan or a collector.

Fall of Cybertron can go FOC itself. I bought it, and I didn't enjoy how goddamn hard it was to see your enemies if they were far away.

As for toys? I'd say the Prime toyline was decent - some of them, like Wheeljack, Soundwave, Rumble, and the PRID Vehicon were friggin' amazing, others like Knock Out, Hot Shot, Arcee and Ratchet were pretty solid. Again, the FOC toys can go FOC themselves, since I'd much rather have an F-22 Seeker in Generations, or I dunno, maybe an Earth mode Soundwave?

This is something we do for fun every year. We share our OPINIONS on OUR favorite figures of the year.

It's cool if you want to participate in the discussion. But to take something meant to be fun, and sit here and tell someone how crappy their opinions are, and that because their opinion on their favorite doesn't match some preconceived list that you claim is fact and those people can't be taken seriously...

This type of thought is poisonous and literally ruins the enjoyment of those around you. Either relax, take part, and join in the discussion respectfully to those around you, or choose not to participate at all. That doesn't just go for this thread. That's for the entire forum.

What ho good chap! How is the new year treating you? Well I should hope?
In the spirit of brotherly compassion and goodwill to all something or others I thought I should bring to your attention that you seem to ambulating around with your shoes untied. I would heartily recommend that you rectify this post haste! Especially in light of the fact that you seem to be ankle deep in toys me ol' china!

Please don't cry, as that is not my intent, but Vehicon is NOT selling out all over the world. In my area, he is shelf-warming like crazy. I can go into Target, Walmart, TRU, and a handful of other stores and there are at LEAST a dozen sitting on the pegs... I almost bought the first three I saw on shelves. Glad I didn't because of the flooding of the market that figure now has. Meanwhile I've only seen 1 Airachnid, 1 Voyager Bulkhead, and 1 Ultra Magnus...

As for my favorite that I purchased in 2012, that honor would have to go to MP10 as well. As one of two Transformers I've purchased (the other being MP Thundercracker) I must say that the value versus dollar ratio for MP10 is exponential, if you got him at the original $99 price point. By himself, Prime is well worth the typical $70 price point of a Hasbro released Masterpiece, but you add in the HUGE yet sturdy trailer, roller, weapons, Spike, and the artistic way Prime is packaged, and you have hands down one of the most jaw-dropping pieces of art in toy collecting history.

I was just going to say - Vehicon won't be hard to get for the next 5 years, anyway. By all accounts, he's all over the place in the US, but that's not what will make him come down in price...

...it's the fact that he's a really fantastic toy that happens to be a TROOPBUILDER. Which means that a lot of collectors, aka the demographic that'll be putting old stuff they don't want anymore on eBay/sales threads down the road, will buy multiples, and down the road sell off some of their extras.

(Heck - I have a crapton of Vehicons, myself, and I can imagine myself selling a few of them off down the road. I'm already mulling over cutting down my Vehicon General order quantity to just a couple.)

Given there was the initial rush of people to buy any Vehicon they could get, and in numbers in many cases, I don't think the figure will be worth that much down the road due to collector saturation. It's a great toy, but the fact that it's a great toy that makes for a great armybuilder is a mark against it down the road, especially since it eventually got ample distribution.

Thank god there's clearly no danger of my being taken seriously as a collector or Transformers fan. Best news I've had so far this year.

MP-10 was a great new version of Convoy (much as I still like MP-01 as well); wasn't that fussed initially, but really impressed once I picked one up. Not so in agreement with the MP-12 love, just found it a little underwhelming - but generally interested in this new approach to MPs by TT, looking forward to where they go with it in 2013.

I think it would be ok to include the FE Voyagers considering they weren't available in the United States until 2012. I think FE Prime and Bulkhead deserve honorable mentions but I wouldn't say they top MP-10.

I take anyone serious as a collector wether they pick vehicon or even airachnid as the best lol,it's just a opinion
But the main reason for my top pick is we in America got a mp prime on our shelves with a trailer! And that is something I would never take for granted
A deluxe figure no matter how cool is not going to match up in my book
