Good choices, and I would have to agree with MP-10 Hasbro version. MP Lambor is great to.

Great choices! The newer MP figures are amazing.

In all fairness, all of the Prime FE figures were technically released in 2011.

Mine would have been Green Giant, hands down.

True, but he did have a "reissue" this year, which isn't that different than other reissues from this year like Twincast and Sixshot. I was considering him for my top 5 for just that reason (I didn't get him the first time around), but ultimately he didn't make the list. Easily in the top 10 for me though, and quite easy to defend in anyone's top 5. My guess is many of the staff already had him prior to this year though.

I see from this list that 3rd party items must not have been allowed ;)

MP Sideswipe, Hasbro Prime, RID Vehicon, WFC Starscream, and Bruticus make up my top 5 for 2012.

since i count mp-10 as 2011 (got it for christmas last year, tops the list for 2011 though) mp-12 gets my vote as best new mold, runner up mp-11, both figures are fantastic and mp-11 is very sturdy, something that mp-3 wasn't

My top pick would have be RID Vehicon too. Didn't think I'd ever get one unless I lubed up and hit ebay. But then Aldi's started selling deluxes during the holidays for $10 and I got one. But damn if Vehicons aren't like potato chips. You can't stop at just one. So I ended up with 5 of'em total, nice round number.

The figure itself truly is incredible. One of the best mainline retail figs in recent years. I've never troop builded before, but it really is a sight seeing those 5 of mine lined on display. i hope to add a couple Jet Vehicons and a Jet Vehicon General when that gets released.

Even with all the negativity the Prime and FOC lines garnered this past year, there were some gems in both lines. Add to that Takara's wonderful entries to the masterpiece line and I can see where people had a hard time choosing.

One thing I would like to see is "most surprising figure", that one figure that you held it in your hands and totally reversed your opinion on.

It would have to be broken into at least two categories, Best upgrade/add-on kit and Best figure.

Mine would be a double win for Maketoys with Green Giant and Battle tanker.

I knew there was something I liked about you ;)

I was happy to see Encore Soundblaster get mention. That figure really blew me away with its use of painted detail instead of stickers.

I guess Artfire is just not as good as Stepper was and didn't even get an honorable mention. Stepper was truly a great figure when I got it last year. Artfire is nice too, but Stepper was just way better. Happy to see Kick-Off get in and a honorable mention for the Botcon LongArm along with Wheelie. As you can tell I really like the RTS mold. At that pricepoint, it really blows most things out of the water for value and design.

Anyone who didn't pick RID Vehicon or Jet Vehicon doesn't know what they're talking about when it comes to Transformers, simply can't take anyone seriously as a fan or a collector who doesn't see the greatness on display in that figure. You can ALWAYS do clever transformations and therefore, get better figures our of Leader or Masterpiece scale figures... when you get down to the brass tacks of the "Best" figure for a year, you have to judge it on mass appeal, size and price-point and it simply doesn't get better than RID Vehicon. He's a figure that you struggle to find anywhere, even on re-release waves. He's crazy show accurate for his size and a design that SHOULD be held up as a "move in this direction, Hasbro" for any future toys... hell, EVERY vehicle alt-mode bot should feature a similar leg transformation for the roof of cars, that alone is simple perfected genius.

Yeah, Masterpiece figures are great... but they're nothing compared to RID Vehicon. 10 years from now, no-one will be hunting down copies of Masterpiece Prime. RID Vehicon will be a sought-after figure, it's got at least one... if not 2 repaints coming in the next 6 months alone.

It's the new benchmark for Deluxe size, mainstream figures. Wins on price-point, design, uniqueness of character and technology on display. Paintjob, colours and quality control are above reproach. Buy 3, keep one boxed. It's gonna be worth plenty in the future....

    It wins everything.

In all fairness, I don't have one yet. I've played with the toy though. As one can read from my picks, MP Lambor is my runaway favorite.

It's a ton of fun, but I have to admit that it's never been easy narrowing things down to just one figure and 4 runners up. Sadly, this year has been easier than those of years previous.

    For real :lol

    :lol

It's a great toy, and in my top five. That's a very polarized opinion, though. It's not one I can share either. I will say that it was fun troop building :)

MP-10 (the Hasbro version) tops the list for me as well. It's my first Masterpiece figure and I'm not the least bit disappointed in him. If everything in the catch-all Classics/Generations sublines had been like this (not necessarily in terms of size, price, or complexity but mere cartoon-level accuracy) I'd have been a true completist.

My runners up would probably go to RID Vehicon, FE Bulkhead, RID Wheeljack, and G2 Bruticus.

I see it as pretty black and white, really. When you factor in Price, Playability, Mainstream appeal and then look at over all toy design, technology and how close it is to the actual show design... it wins all the categories easily from anything else on the market. He's revolutionary, popular, great for kids and adult collectors. 99% of people who buy him, buy another. That's almost unheard of today in the current financial environment. Sure, he's troop-builder bait... but it's made easier when he's as good as he is. There's some astounding First Edition stuff out there, we've been spoiled, really... Bulkhead and Prime on the Voyager scale... but at the 'Traditional' Transformers Deluxe scale, the mainstream scale and price-point, nothing comes close to RID Vehicon.

Vehicon is going to go down as a once in a lifetime figure, on the same shelf as G1 Soundwave ...Hasbro will learn from his design and he'll motivate a new generation of design aesthetics in future vehicle toys for the new movies and beyond.

Taking in all the factors at play, he's easily the best toy in 2012, in (probably) the best toyline since Generation 1.

    Simple as that, really :popcorn

Seams like there needs to be more uniformity when deciding on which figures can be voted on and what figures can not.

Masterpiece is usually released overseas a year before it's released in the states. Does that mean that you can vote for the figure twice?

When do you make the final cut off for what's been released in the states for that year?
Even though I bought FOC Soundwave and FOC wave 3 a few days before the end of the year I would consider them 2013 figures.

I like the FOC Bruticus but technically that is really 5 individual figures, can that count?

First edition Voyagers were never released in the states in 2011. Not sure how you can't count them as a 2012 release.

Should we start counting Kre-o? The Devestator set was pretty sweet. Those Micro-Changer teams sure look cool.

I think it would make for a more intresting read if each editor had to write about a different figure. I'd rather not read 2-3 people talk about how 1 or 2 figures are so great.

Personnally I can't belive that no one voted for DOTM HA Soundwave or is that figure considered a 2011 figure?

    My top 5:
    5. FE Voyager Bulkhead
    4. Voyager Breakdown
    3. RID Vehicon
    2. DOTM HA Soundwave
    1. Masterpiece Optimus Prime

Figure that I total changed my mind about (in a good way) once I had it in my hand: RID Voyager Starscream
Worst figure of the year: Cyberverse Optimus Maximus.
Honorable mention: All the microns and micron capsule figures total rock!
