The people who handle GI Joe's brand really need to get sacced and more competent people put into place. It's clear there was a lot of thought and work that was put in to make Transformers the success it is today, and yet you can't scrounge up the same kind of effort to put GI Joe back on the map?

I think the removal of movie likenesses is a pretty telling move...get rid of movie likenesses so the line can sell.

 

There's a huge difference between a Toyfair preview that ends up getting cancelled and showing off a HUGE display of fully tooled and painted pre-production figures and vehicles over twice the size of the actual RELEASED lines at the major fan convention for that particular product. While it gave customizers lots of ideas, all it did for the rest of the Joe collector world was kick it in the nuts.

Renegades was cancelled before it ever aired (or the Hub existed as it is now), and it was pure idiocy on Hasbro's part to not try and revive and continue the series, especially since that had an entire toyline ready to produce to go along with it.

 

Gi Joe's biggest problem is it's not friendly to the international market.

I think the way around that is to comission a FPS or Batman style game based on Snake Eyes and Scarlett set in the Gi Joe/Cobra Universe and then market the toys under that name.

The name Gi Joe is retail Poison internationally.

Hey, welcome to Hasbro, home of if it's not a major blockbuster in theaters right this second you get crap toys, which unless you failed to notice, have hit Hasbro's Transformers pretty hard right now. I could be mistaken, but aren't the FOC, Beast Hunters, and new PRID Voyagers having lots of issues with cheap plastic, poor QC, and cheap design? Just wait until the BotCon display of Takara-quality unreleased molds for all the Deluxe-sized TF's across all the lines that blow the doors off what's out there now. Is there any toy property of Hasbro's that IS doing well currently?

 

Because it's hasbro,that's why.

 

Easy: both properties are Hasbro's and historically, have been complementary lines until Bay's TF movies were hits and ROC was, well, ROC. Now that box-office sales drive of a current movie is not bolstering TF sales and the Prime line ended up on clearance for many brand new figures, TF fans are getting to see what Joe fans have been dealing with since 2008, crap treatment from Hasbro.

I seem to have missed the part where we are entitled to know anything about Hasbro's plans. Unless you can demonstrate that Hasbro is purposely being deceptive, changing plans is not a lie.

I think this makes it pretty clear why we rarely, if ever, see confirmations and absolutes in correspondences from Hasbro.

I believe Hasbro when they say that, because 97% of those third-party, import and reproduction toys are being bought by impulse by parents on toy shelves, too.

Considering that their profit margin is derived from the actions that their customers take, it is ANY customer's right to inquire about the future plans. Hasbro is under no obligation to answer or be truthful, as they have demonstrated many times over, but by maintaining a pretense that they "care" about their customers, Hasbro opens itself to legitimate conjecture/criticism.

There are laws governing business and promised product delivery, so they have a legal reason to be vague or dishonest at times, but again, publishing information establishes a reasonable expectation among customers, so EVERY release, no matter how informally worded, has been legally proof-read many times over before being published.

 

But international markets aren't important to an American company.

you're going to have to expand upon that statement, cause I have no idea where you're getting the idea that "we form 3% of the American Transformer buying community", equates to "we form 3% of the import/Knock off Market".....

 

Both statements are equally false. I will concede that Hasbro Transformers have a much wider customer base than other 80's toy lines, but the collector market is a MUCH larger part of it than Hasbro, directly or indirectly, or other "more informed" fanboys lead us to believe.

I could see 50-70% to collectors as legitimate numbers, but seriously, when was the last time you EVER saw a child/parent buy a Transformer toy? It's a flat-out falsity that 97% of Hasbro TF toys are going to kids at retail when there is a constantly diminishing retail presence. The toys aren't even THERE to be bought! (More GI Joe says "Hi!," BTW)

 

so....just to make sure 'YOUR observations' which I assume don't go much beyond what you visually inspect in your geographical area > Hasbro who collects nationwide data? Hasbro says we comprise 3-10% of the people buying TF on the shelves and your response "B.S. I never see kids buying them w're 50 -70%!"....thats some serious scientific research there!

 

Okay, THAT is nonsense.

For example: Toys R Us stocked TONS of old DOTM deluxes a month before Christmas, alongside about two pegs of shelfwarming GDO scouts and around 15-or-so Masterpiece Thundercrackers.

Just after Christmas, the DOTM deluxes and GDO scouts were gone. Do you think it was collectors who bought all of this old stock no one wanted? Because it was clearly parents buying for their kids.

Meanwhile, the same TRU still has about the same number of Thundercrackers.

I don't believe the 3% statistic either, but it's probably closer to 10%. Believing we're even close to half of the market is a delusion.

well I was exaggerating on the 3% so...no, but the '5-10%' was qouted by Hasbro during the Botcon panel I think 2 or 3 years ago....May have been pre-movie.
