^That Classics Magnus shot is gorgeous as well as the ones you've just posted :)  I'm trying to let go of my TFs, too, but I just can't reach the stage you are at, while at the same time the storage boxes full of TFs overwhelm me.

Alucard77 - I love TFA figures, though I have thinned out my collection quite a bit. They have such great characters in them. Jazz mould wasn't the most popular IIRC, but he is my favourite.

As mentioned, it's Freeway Jazz. I'll be so envious of your Jackpot... I once aspired to be a completist of TFA Jazz mould, but Dead End made me gave up. If I can find an affordable Jackpot down the road, maybe.... the new head looks great.
I should try a tabletop photoshoot like yours :)  Something like jetwing Optimus doesn't fit in my lightbox.

hardreturn - I love that toy! I wish I had a deadpool figure to go with him....

I'm going through my photo folders and shamelessly posting old pics

Bot mode he is nice. Car mode it is crap. The doors just kill me. Just destroys the lines of the car.

thanks man, I really pulled a 180 on the lambo twins. decided to get them just because I wanted them for my mp collection, and that they might not come out in the states. I was pretty amazed at how good of toys they are.

love the gdo powerdive, he was another surprise favorite of the gdo line for me.

I dig it man, looks sharp. Still need that damn kickback, seem to always be the one missing when I go to the store.

Sadly for a MP, yes. Especially when you compare what Takara released to what OptimusTimelord did here in the Radicons.

Don't get me wrong, I think the figures are great in Bot modes. But that whole area doesn't tab in together to well, and there are like 5 or 6 lines there. It looks like a jigsaw puzzle there.

^It's too hot where I am! Why can't we be happy, haha. Very nice pics. I think you are using the shadow as nice effect.

Cracka - Awesome. I can see how the new MP series has become very addictive. I am still not very interested in them, but the news of Prowl woke me up.

    RICEMASTER - very nice colours...:)

    wow, thank you!!

Erland - from what I've seen of your pics from "Find the TF" and other threads, your photos are always clear and clean :)  That kickback looks nice, too. If I may I suggest covering up the light and/or add more lights so that it won't create too much shadow behind the figure.

Don't put yourself down like that my friend. Mindwipe is a great subject :)

Right now, I don't have an actual light box, I have poster board on a work bench, and due to finances, I'm trying not to buy more lights just yet. I'm about to move into a new place...so I gotta save some dough..

But, all my pictures have had a yellowing to them which is why I didn't think they were super clean worthy... this one, I was playing with the WB AGAIN... as well as playing with the lighting, how and where it's aimed and think I finally found a position/settings where the pictures no longer come out yellowed.. I'm gonna try a few more tonight, hopefully and we'll see. If I have more pictures posted in here, then you know I found the sweet spot..

Thank you for the advise though.. I do have some white tissue paper that I can attempt to use for diffusing of the lights.. If I can find it again I'll try it out..

^I see :)  I'm also a firm believer of making the most of what I've got instead of wanting more (can't afford to, now my kid needs a new set of school uniforms...why doesn't he stop growing bigger and bigger and eating all my food already? :p ) Keep the pics coming!
As for the lightbox, CodeXCDM mentioned he doesn't use one, and he posts great pics, too.

I don't have a light box... yep. I resorted to using a 2x3 poster board held up by the weight of a figure... and held up beside a wall or monitor.

As for lighting... I have a set of desk lamps that I bounce by the walls or ceiling... my rooms are all white... so that diffuses the light quite nicely.

There's also good ways to set up light boxes on the cheap... if you have a bed sheet and some PVC pipes (they're like 10-20 cents per foot of tubing) you can make a container for figures that works pretty well to diffuse light. Stopped using it because some figures I wanted to shoot simply didn't fit in the box... and I didn't want to go off buying more pipes to have lying around... >_>

i have no idea whether or not it would work, but a possible solution for diffusing light without "losing" a lot of light would be to use a shoot-through umbrella. these are typically used in flash photography (i use them in a lot of my shots), but i can't think of a reason they wouldn't work with a regular light source.

if you use walls and ceilings to bounce the light, you're getting a lot of light falloff as it goes in different directions (i.e., the light bouncing back and in your frame is significantly less than the source produces). with a shoot-through umbrella, the light is pointing directly at the figure (concentrating the light beams), but the umbrella (which is a translucent white) captures and spreads the light over the entire umbrella area, simulating a much larger (and more diffuse) light source.

it's the same concept as a lightbox, where the small light is spread over a large area (e.g., the walls of the lightbox), but doesn't require actually buying or building the lightbox.

most of the pictures i've done recently have two light sources; a shoot-through umbrella with flash to the left and behind the figure, and a shoot-through umbrella with flash to the right and front of the figure. the power of the light on each is adjusted upward or downward so the light isn't "even," creating some depth. a third light can be added at the back right to create even more depth, but i can't do it the way i have it set up right now (i've got to create a deeper space to shoot).

i can test to see if the umbrella works with a regular light in the same way when i get home from vacation and report back, but i don't see why it wouldn't.

here is a picture of how they work:

File:Shoot through Umbrella.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    here's where you can get one (about $15, i'm sure they can be found cheaper on ebay or something);

Midwest Photo Exchange Creative Light Umbrella Translucent 85 cm/33''

it's probably not as efficient as a lightbox, in that it is spreading the light over a larger area (thus not creating a more powerful, but smaller source), but it is much more flexible in terms of setting things up and having plenty of space.

You do lose quite a bit of light indeed... but eh... got used to toying with 3-5s exposures ever since toying with MT's Tanker / Laser Prime... at those time lengths, the lost light becomes negligible.

Also... Those photography diffusers are eseentially retooled Umbrellas... so using actual umbrellas is an economical alternative... but... I'm not keen on opening umbrella's indoors... IDK why I'm superstitious like that... >_<

In any regards... I still want a better camera... and if I get the will to learn... figure out how to take much better shots... my current bridge camera is fiddly tho. =.
