I probably shouldn't have watched that video. My level of impatience has grown. Soundwave looks amazing! Though, I agree with thielmj about the hips. It makes me wonder what the actual process of conceptualization and engineering is. I mean, do the designers go with the first thing that works, or do they actually try to refine as best they can? Nitpicks aside...GIMMMEEE!

Looks fantastic, I can't wait. Not a huge fan of the back of the alt-mode, but that is a minor flaw when the robot mode looks that marvelous. Also, Laserbeak is the best thing ever, just amazing, probably the most impressive thing about MP-13! Cannot wait for that awesome little psycho Buzzsaw!

You know, I've been thinking. Why are Masterpeices so big and expensive? Are their engineering really so good that they couldn't be done in Deluxe and Voyager and be sold for only $10-$20 more than normal TFs that size? MP Soundwave doesn't even have a proper back.

I finally got to see the video review.... I do like his transformation, considering how simplistic the design is (the original, I should say), but it's certainly not perfect. Plus the size and materials tell me $200.00 for this guy is a big no no.

I'll wait for a US release, if there is one, or I just won't get it at all.

Because they're made to be Takara's answer to Bandai's Soul of Chogokin line. So big, impressive display pieces is the name of the game.

And it's not like they're not taking advantage of the extra size. Deluxe and Voyager versions of this wouldn't have had the finger articulation to pull off his classic eject and point-and-command poses, and the certainly couldn't have shrunk down his minions any further.

But he's only leader size and he honestly less impressive than ROTF Optimus Prime which is a lot cheaper. I love Soundwave. He's my favorite Transformer and I think he hasn't had a great toy until now (good but not great) but I find it hard to pay so much for such a simple figure that doesn't even quite reach perfection.

He's marketted entirely differently than RotF Prime figure.

RotF was a mass-released kid's figure (although his engineering will tell you differently).

The Masterpiece line is marketted as an adult collectible, and is priced accordingly as per the competing market. That's really all there is to it. The mold itself could probably be priced down closer to RotF Prime, but you'd be sacrificing the paint apps and probably some of the accessories.

The additions that bump him up to collector-level merchandise probably aren't proportional to the added cost, mind you, but again, that's marketting for you.

Notably, when they bumped Prime up to the premium Buster release, his price tag shot up considerably as well, to a similar level of the other Movie Masterpiece releases.

Yes. TakaraTomy's greedy and wants your money. That's what it all boils down to. Some of it's economics of scale, but most of it's just buyer psychology.

This wouldn't happen if people just said no. If they just said "That's a ripoff, I'm not buying that until price is lowered." we might get cheaper stuff.

Edit: My Masterpeice Soundwave shall be my PRID one. It's also out of scale with everything outside of it's own line but has more impressive enginering, can fit in my pocket and is waaay cheaper.

^Ill never understand that attitude. Hate to break it to you but if this were $300 I still would have purchased it along with many others. Refer MP-10. Making a stance will never achieve anything because so few will be with you. At $160 this thing will sell out in no time. If money is an issue for you I guess your only salvation is Hasbro.
