Bought Hasbro Soundwave at TRU. Last one they had, spent 120.... what I'd give to get that figure back

He is an awesome mould but I hated that he only came with a single cassette, then the other four were released as 2 x full priced Takara MP's and then Ratbat with Soundblaster! That was a great example of Takara taking advantage of collectors. I ended up paying full price for one of the last Official Soundwaves from Robot Kingdom - I don't even want to know what I paid - GBP to AUD plus international shipping!! After that I... chose not to be milked by Takara for official cassettes.

Thing I hate is Hasbro keeps screwing up the Takara Masterpieces. I wanted the Takara Soundwave, but that was pricey. So was going to get the Hasbro version, but they had to put yellow eyes instead of the red eyes. Everytime Hasbro has to screw something up and then the Takara version is just way too expensive.

The Hasbro version came with ALL five of the mp casettes, for 150 at the time. Thats easily the best buy ever relating to masterpiece. The yellow eyes may not be ideal to some but you cant beat that. I actually own both the takara and the tru versions, and the paint is superb on both.

Just because you don't want the yellow eyes doesn't make it a screwup.
The G1 toy and the Marvel Comic both had the yellow eyed Soundwave, and that's the one i love.

Isn't it good that we have the choice of both?

    This is perfect to me:

    1. Buy the Hasbro version that was "ruined" with all the cassettes instead of passing it up
    2. Sell the Hasbro version
    3. Profit!!!
    4. Buy the Takara version that was not "ruined", and get free casettes, or buy the Takara casettes from the Profit(!!!)

Couldn't have put it better myself. I kinda lose a bit of respect for people that get upset over such minor differences. If you could get the Hasbro version but didn't because you don't like the yellow eyes, you probably deserve to buy the Takara one for $300. If yellow eyes bug you that much, red sharpies are about a buck

When I had my Hasbro Soundwave I painted the eyes red. It was easy and fun, and made him look awesome

I don't have any good pics unfortunately, but here's a screenshot from my Instagram from exactly 3 years ago. The red/yellow thing on the left are his eyes. As you can see the yellow was the stock color that Hasbro gave him.

I have the G1 version Soundwave.

On the Masterpiece I prefer the red eyes and don't care for the yellow eyes. Just saying I would have picked up the Hasbro version if it had the red eyes. It didn't and I didn't care to pay the premium for the Takara version. No big deal. Just saying when Hasbro makes changes, generally they are for the worst for some reason from my view. Having choice is good, just would have been better if I preferred the Hasbro versions over the Takara versions as Hasbro is cheaper and easier to get.

Like on Optimus Prime 10, I prefer the darker Takara colors compared to Hasbro version.

Did it come with a Takara box? Where did you buy it?

If you bought it on eBay from China with a Takara box, it is most likely legit. The KOs have a similar box (black) with completely different company markings.

    If there isn't a box I can't help you
