I thought that maybe an original thread with these items would be fun. The same way Trailbreaker77 has his Henkei vs. Hasbro pics. Basically what I have started to do is compare all G1s to their Alt/MP/3rd Party and Classics counterparts. These are all G1 cartoon inspired, so nothing that goes into another realm of the fandom. I am a G1 whore, so this is the stuff I love.

Please note, some of these have "cheats". So I will list out what those cheats are, so you don't buy the figure and assume it looks like that. I did them to my figures to make them as close to MP as I could.

I have been posting these pics around in 2 separate threads, but I kinda felt like I was doing it in the wrong section for the G1 thread. As for the Supah-Cleah, I was asking for picture advice there. Apologies for those that have seen these multiple times and thanks everyone for looking.

This is an awesome idea. I love from then 'till now's. Excellent posing and quality as well. Can't wait for Bluestreak, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker.

I find it amazing that for all the love they get, the classics toys are in comparison the least classy versions of each character.

great thread, I look forward to seeing more!

Thanks for the nice words. I am still a novice so taking these pics takes me some time. So the encouragement really helps.

It's funny that you should mention those 3. I was going to do Bluestreak sooner rather then later, but I was going to wait for MP Sideswipe before doing that pic. As for Sunstreaker, I am not sure if I will do him at all. The Alt version is really poor and looks nothing like sunstreaker. I hate that mold oh so much. However if there is enough interest I will take a shot at it.

I gotta agree with you. I am thinking that my classics collection is primarily going to be a 3rd party collection because the Has/Tak stuff is really not the best.

Personally I have debated multiple times on selling my classic, but I just cannot do it. Maybe after these pics I will, but I will find out after all that is done.

The other thing I have been thinking is to blog my opinions on each figure, or impressions on each.

those G1 add-ons to Ahhrnhaahd and Ratchet REALLY spruce those figures up. Great pics!

These are really interesting because I would not have expected to like the Classics versions least in each and every case. And especially not by such a wide margin.

I'm sure this wasn't the intent of the thread, but looking at those pictures makes me feel like I am completely done with Classics and need more Alternators.

Yeah, that is the one thing that makes the comparisons a little unfair. But I'm kind of shocked how unappealing each of those Classics figures looks next to their counterparts. I had to have seen comparisons like these before, so I can't figure out what it is that is only now making me feel this way.

edit: I posted right after looking at the pictures and before reading any comments, so I'm kind of glad there are others noticing how underwhelming the Classics figures are coming off here, and that it's not me going crazy.

I think the only ones where the Classics-style ones fall flat is with Ratchet and Ironhide, which is no surprise. But really, those are a little unfair to begin with - the use of the Third-Party toys kind of skew the results.

Even Rodimus isn't terrible - after all, the G1 toy is, to put it politely, a hunk of ass.

Not exactly a fair comparison, since the alts and/or G1 figures are customized and compared to stock versions of basic Classics - compare United Jazz to an un-reprolabeled Meister, or the original Alt Prowl to the Classics version, or use Henkei Hound in place of the Classics version.

Still though, it's a cool comparison idea. Maybe do Rumble and Ravage next? :D

In all fairness, my Alts are pretty pimped out. So for those who don't know, the Alts don't come with the shoulder missiles and stickers. The prowl is actually BT Red Alert with Prowl's head and a set of reprolabels.

So the classics may look worse by comparison. Maybe if I pimped the classics with Reprolabels, people would think differently.

In either case, it goes to show G1 has it in spades with the chrome and stickers. While people may not like em, they greatly improve figures.

    And rubber tires.

When you have three cars and two of them have chrome rims and rubber tires, the third car really stands out in a bad way.

Fascinating idea. As much as G1 love/nostalgia is alien to me personally, I really dig the comparisons showing the regular retail toys of the past and present, along with pimped out collector's versions.

Sweet pics. You should add in the WSTs as well if you have those.

    You still need:
    Grimlock
    Seekers
    Coneheads
    Prime
    Megs
    Tracks
    Bluestreak/Silverstreak
    Sideswipe
    Sunstreaker
    Red Alert

I think that's it. I look forward to seeing what you do with all of these guys. The comparisons are awesome.
