When you put it in a row like that, it seems that Classics line serve as the best representation of a figure. Then again, we have yet to see other upcoming MP

All these pictures look almost exactly like how I have my own displays setup. :)

I have to disagree with you there SQ7- I think the G1's look worse in pretty much every picture compared to the Classics and MPs. Yes they have history, yes they were the originals and yes the alt modes are good, but the bot modes are so so bad that unless you have a serious sentimental attachment to the G1 toys, they are clearly the worst of the 3... I think you are looking at them with rose tinted glasses if you actually think they look better.

why? because they're not poseable? the things that make them look better are the chrome, and perfect paint apps (other than wear on some) they're accurate, have great real world alt modes. and they stand well on a shelf. there are the odd one that's kinda out there, just like any line, they're not perfect

classics are barely painted with sloppy paint apps, the proportions are no better on a lot of them, (sunstreaker's hammer pants and tiny arms, prowl's a total mess, ironhide, etc) and most of them have a passing resemblance at best to the character. i still like them, but all they really have going for them is poseability imo and that can be a pain if they're not flat footed, or they're like a lot of the universe figures that barely stand on the best of days

mps are head and shoulders above them, but classics are definitely the lesser of the three in my collection. most non collectors that i have in my house don't even give the classics a second glance, (much like animated or prime) unless i specifically point them out

Man there is something very familiar about this thread, I can't quite put my finger on it.

I, for one, can appreciate a journey through collecting G1 toys: Especially the comparisons to today's versions of the characters.

I love comparing the Classics I have recently gotten for my son to the old G1s I had when I was a kid. I never had any trouble transforming the old G1s. He is a little younger than I was when I played with them, but in a few years, he will probably love them. If he doesn't become a video game junkie.

Yeah, I was always a fans of Stayinthebox's blog about G1. I was talking to him when his blog first started about how much I loved it. We were discussing figures and such and how fun G1 collecting is. I highly recommend his blog by the way. Has some great pics and nice writing. Up to recently has been the G1 and Classics comparison. He has a great piece with all 3 molds of Sidewipe in it that you guys should check out.

    A G1 Journey

I actually had this idea very early 2012, but didn't get around to taking pics till way later. TBH, for me this started because I wanted to enjoy each figure more. I use to buy them, Transform them once, and throw em on the shelf. I thought that I needed to enjoy them more, and I figured this was the way to do it and give back here.

Great point. If it wasn't for my website or articles, I think i would have lost interest in collecting for the sake of amassing toys a good many years ago.

I had to find a way of bringing a new way to the hobby to enjoy myself, and the photography, writing and study of the toys and their history was the key to that. There's always something new to discover, which is also why I cannot be trusted around MISB TFs.

    All the best
    Maz

Thundercracker test.... well I've gotten a new camera since the last one took a swim. I'm not liking this new one to much, my last camera had a tungsten setting to set the white balance correctly this one does not. Any tips would be helpful, anyways here is my pink set of Thundercrackers I'll shoot some more figure sets once I get this problem solved.

LOVE this thread, I eat this stuff up!

HMMM, while I've been agreeing with the general sentiment that the Classics are generally the losers compared to the pure "looks" of the G1 toys or the glory of a high end 3rd party or MP offering, in the case of TC here....I love that classics mold, he looks so sharp.

I have gripes with the classic seeker (too small, some poseability issues, oversized null rays), but it really is a sexy little toy all in all.

Wow, these comparisons have highlighted how ugly the classics versions are, thank god I decided to purify my G1 collection by selling them off. Looking back, I don't know what on earth posessed me to buy them in the first place. Ewwww!

    Thanks guys!

Only one request, can we do bot mode and alt mode?

And TB77: why must you tempt me with the WST? LOL. Don't you know your not supposed to introduce new drugs to a druggie?

Sorry my Transformers don't transform, they are defective..... OH and how does this thread make it this far without a Prime shot? Really?

I've got to go pick up some Superbowl party supplies right now, but I can shoot Prime when I get back.
