I am totally enamoured with the new direction that TakaraTomy are taking with Masterpiece Transformers. The latest releases have me more excited about Transformers than I have been in years.

But it got me to thinking about the season 1 cast/84-85 line and how they would be recognised in this new line. Licenses aside, most of the other characters are pretty easy to do except when it comes to Jetfire.

What should TakaraTomy look at doing when it comes to Jetfire? Obviously they can't use the G1 toy.
Should they try to recreate the Classics Jetfire in to a better engineered Masterpiece figure or should they look at trying to recreate the cartoon Skyfire in to a Masterpiece figure?

To be honest, as excited as I am with the Masterpiece line I would personally be fine with them releasing both versions

My guess would be that they base it on the cartoon design, since the MP toys seem to be targeted more at older collectors who grew up on G1. Like me!! Good lord, I'm old.

However, in a hypothetical copyright-free world, it would have been fun to see a MP Skyfire that could convert between his cartoon and toy models (similar to how MP Hot Rod can become Rodimus Prime)

I wouldn't mind seeing them do Skyfire as we got a perfectly fine version of Jetfire in the Classics line. And I say Jetfire was fine back in the day but he just plain compared to his on-screen counterpart so I say hands down Takara should do MP Skyfire.

Also it wouldn't matter about trademark laws as Skyfire has zero resemblance to Bandai's design.I hope one day Takara announces a MP Skyfire, and I will be the first one in line to preorder it.

Since one of the purposes of the MP line was to make highly detailed TFs that would be cartoon accurate, the should go with Skyfire.

Besides, since the original toy mold belongs to Bandai, if anyone wants an MP Jetfire, Bandai has put out something similar to an MP line of Valkyries.

If I had to choose, I would have to go with Skyfire. Whether they go off the cartoon or base it off the Classics, it will be an instant purchase. The direction TT seems to be taking tells me that if they do make him a MP figure it will be cartoon Skyfire. Either way I hope they make one, Sky/Jetfire is in my top 5 favorite G1 characters.

Bandai has not, but Yamato has. (for the VF-1S that Jetfire was, at least)

They should try to match the cartoon model.

Ah right, forgot about that. It kept popping up in my mind that it was Bandai.

Yeah, the new MP line has rekindled my interest in TFs, especially the cartoon accuracy (at least they are trying) and in scale robots!

I would love to see Skyfire in his cartoon form to fit into the line. Of anyone can do it, it's TT!!! :)

Up-scaled version of the original G1 toy/cartoon model, but retain the helmet/ alternate head style gimmick of the classics design.

    Cartoon accurate.

If they never make him then people can just go get G1 Jetfire and put him with their MP bots. He'd fit right in.

I'm with this. I love that the classics version of Jetfire has a removable helmet. In fact that is one of the few things that I didn't like about High Moon Studio's WFC version of Jetfire, I wanted him to have a G1 toy style helmet that he would take off/put on or would transform over his head. Anyway I love this idea.
