No he's not being Arbitrary, I don't have time to look for it, but TT has said as much. When they remade Optimus, they wanted to start making the upcoming MPs in scale with him. Rodimus is a bit taller/same size then MP 10, he's way out of scale!

Yes. He was always about a hair shorter them Optimus, and Megatron in the show, and he's just a hair shorter then MP 10.

This is what I'm thinking also. I don't have MP-10 (will probably pick up the TRU version if it's reasonable price) but I'm intrigued to know - how does his trailer work for Faith Leader?

I really never have cared for scale. I wouldn't mind if all the MP's were MP-01's size. Going by the last pic people should be complaining that MP-10 is too big vs Grimlock, who was noticeably larger in the cartoon...

Rubbish. Do you expect me to believe that Takara didn't intend for MP-10 to be the same size as MP-09 when they've photographed both figures shaking hands? And how do you explain MP-11 then? He was made after MP-10, yet he's the same size as MP-03. Are you telling me that MP-11 is part of the new scale and MP-03 is from the old scale? Get your facts straight.

The interview with Shogo Hasui, ("Mr. Starscream"), the designer of MP-10 is this:
----------------
TakaraTomy Staff Interview - Masterpiece

Highlights:
*MP-10 was made to be in scale with MP Rodimus. Previous MPs were not made with any real consideration to scale.

*It is his personal dream, as well as a general company goal for MPs going forward from MP-10, to basically be able to line up new MPs in robot mode and be in-scale to the G1 cartoon.
-----------------

That being said, there are of course other considerations that affect the execution of this. First off, everyone has a different memory/opinion of what the characters should look like; this of course will vary significantly with the degree the animation went off-model throughout the run of the show. Hasui mentions how much disagreement there was among the Takara designers about Convoy's headsculpt, so you can imagine that there will be even more disagreement about how tall characters should be. Takara may have decided the best way was just to go off the scale sheets.

Second, I'd guess the size of the vehicle mode and inter-playability with MP-10's trailer was a consideration. In a previous designer interview, around the time of Alternity, Takara staff mentioned that one tricky thing about dealing with licensed vehicles is that the manufacturers are often sticklers about the dimensions of the car. Meaning that they are exacting down to the millimeter at times, which can make robot proportion and clearance issues tricky. So if they wanted the Countach to fit into the trailer, they may not have been allowed tweak and stretch the car to be longer to accommodate a taller robot. (Incidentally, I wonder if Lamborghini might withhold license approval for Sunstreaker, seeing as his vehicle mode could be interpreted by Lambo as an ugly bastardization of their design.)

As for scale to MP Hot Rod, the Hot Rod mode isn't in-scale to the Rodimus mode. If MP-10 is in scale to Rodimus, then scaling to Hot Rod falls by the wayside.

Actually, going by the scale guide, Sideswipe should be a little shorter.

edit: why can't I post images properly? isn't just insert image icon?

I think they will look like this. Those who want Sideswipe taller, you can display him with PP01, it looks slightly wider but still nice and fits Igears Ironhead/Ratchet too, but he will be out of scale in alt mode, being wider than a truck. He will tower classics too, so a mix may look strange, however, that's good for Bumblebee, who will look more scale accurate.
I'd have preferred a bigger name like Jazz before Sideswipe to restart my display, let's hope they bring more cars soon.

When measuring scale, it is much easier to start with real word vehicles, since we have a 1:1 of whatever the vehicle is to be precise. With robots, honestly they can be any size. Neither MP-01/4 or MP-10 are made to be 1:24. MP-01/4 is closer, but it's still a bit on the small side. MP-10 is a tiny truck compared to the 1:24 vehicles.

With Lambor, it's pretty obvious that TakaraTomy is wanting to create a MP line that is scaled within itself, relatively speaking. The Alt/BT has been dead for a few years now, so any intention for these two lines to interact is purely based on fans and what they wish to do with their own collections.

tldr = MPs and Alts interaction isn't officially intentional, but fans like conglomerate their collections so that stuff fits.

MP-10 Convoy's trailer is just too big to fit PP01 Faith Leader in alt mode. I also believe the connector hitch parts are different, so they won't fit one another anyway (I tend not to transform my Faith Leader much though, and prefer to keep him in bot mode).

FansProject's G3 trailer isn't a bad alternative for PP01 except that the back wheels are a little raised off the ground in alt mode. I use the G3 trailer as an upright base / repair station for Faith Leader in bot mode and they look fantastic together size-wise in my Classics Bot display.
