Why can't scalpers just try to flip Bumblebee and not the cool toys?

Eh, kind of (maybe?), but who cares? At the very least, you have an interest in the hobby. You're doing it to further your own collection, not simply to take advantage of the community.

I don't care how much they charge for anything; if the purchase was ever at any point meant for themselves, I don't consider it scalping.

On the other hand, if someone goes to every TRU in a 50 mile radius to get every single shortpacked figure, and completely for the purpose of reselling at a huge mark-up -- and without ever having any interest in owning the toy for themselves -- THAT is scalping.
So again: it's all about selling something for profit instead of keeping it.

Allow me to ask this:
You get to the store to buy something and the shelf is empty. 1 of 2 things happened:
1) Someone bought it to keep
2) Someone bought it to sell.

Either way, someone bought it so what's the difference? It's not there for you. Supposedly one could suggest that if the scalper didn't get it then you would have. But how do you know that someone else wasn't there before you?

The end result is the same. We don't get mad if someone keeps it. We don't get mad if someone makes $1 on it. We only get mad if they make more than that off it.

At the end of the day, someone beat us to it, that's all.

I dont think its nearly an overblown problem as some have made it out to be. I found vehicons without even looking for one with no trouble in the past week alone. The only item I can say I never found at retail was the $40 TRU G1 Reissue of Prime which was clearly scalped. I pretty much find everything I ever needed or looked for.

I'm sick of people complaining about scalpers. They have just as much right to buy a toy as you do. What they choose to do with it is their business.

You know, fans use scalpers as a scapegoat when in reality, some kid (or a collector/fellow member) probably got the toy first.

I'm not saying there aren't scalpers out there however.

I wish I had the time to be able to scalp. Lol. What even gets scalped nowadays? I see everything at retail nowadays. I can see the TRU MP figures getting scalped but after that what's left? Vehicons? Junkions?

Not really, that's just basic retail.

Scalping is creating or facilitating a false market in terms of availability and demand. Increase scarcity to increase the value of the item.

It's pretty unsavoury and exploitative behaviour in my book and I've not really heard an argument to convince me otherwise. I want toy fans to be able to buy toys at the retail price they're worth - same with sports tickets, concert tickets, trainers etc.

If scalpers want to earn a few quid, use the time spent lurking in shops and parceling up goods to ... I don't know ... get a job.
