So I'm wondering, what is your opinion on splurging on figures? (IE buying a ton at a time then taking a break for a while) I splurged for the first time, and I think I bought way too much, so now I kinda have to take a break for at least a month. The figures I got were FE Starscream, PRID Megatron and Ratchet, SG Drift, SG Soundwave, and Alternity Megatron.

So what's your opinion? Splurging good or bad?

My opinion? Eh, it happens sometimes. It's kind of a part of the hobby, ya know? I personally try to limit splurges to twice a year. It usually happens around Botcon. I always tell myself that I don't need ANY of the Botcon exclusives. Then I start looking at pictures and end up getting a bunch of them.

Also, I also splurge around Christmas, getting figures I'd previously passed on from older lines. The only thing about splurging is that it really hurts the wallet. I learned that a few years ago when I was broke for like 3 months from a pretty bad eBay splurge session. As a result, I always try to keep a few hundred extra dollars in my personal Transformers account so that I'm never assed out like that again, lol. It's worked so far!

I don't do it too much, but I find I enjoyed the figures less when I got too many at the same time. It's just not the same thrill.

I've definitely been splurging as of late. First I bought the TFC Toys Hercules. Then I finished off my Masterpiece collection by picking up the Takara Thundercracker. I don't have Ultra Magnus or Rodimus but don't want them. Then I decided to collect the 1984 mini-bots. I bought two of each with the exception of Bumblejumper. So far I only have one of him. I have them displayed with one in robot mode and one in car mode. Then I was faced with the decision of whether to keep buying minibots or start buying the larger figures. I went with the later. I'm working on the whole 1984 pre-rub line MIB. So far I've picked up Megatron, Soundwave & Buzzsaw, Starscream and a first run Optimus with grey Roller and error box. I'll be getting him in the mail this week. I won Jazz this weekend. This morning I picked up a nice, loose Frenzy with metal feet and Laserbeak. To help subsidize my habit I've been selling off other non-Transformers stuff.

Splurging is good as long as you can afford it and you enjoy it.

Rarely ever happens with me. I usually only buy one or two figures at a time.

I've done it. I try not to.

I'll continue to try not to. It will probably occasionally happen again.

The thing of it for me is that I have to weigh how much I might be spending at the moment, versus how much more something might cost me in the future if I pass on it now. I might not want to buy 5 things all at once, but if I do plan to buy all of them eventually and know at least a couple of them are likely to cost me double on the secondary market if I don't pick them up when I actually see them myself, then I'm kind of hurting myself more in the long run by not splurging now.

The trick is being honest with myself about which things I really want, and which are just an impulse buy that I'm not going to care about in a couple weeks.

Hello, my name is Whoamidri and I am a Transformers addict. That's the first step right? Admitting you have a problem? If I would have stopped buying stuff a year ago it would have been a splurge. I would say I do not splurge.
I hope my daughter wants to go to state college (Kidding....sorta).

Splurging is not bad if you've taken care of all other financial responsiblities. Retail therapy if you will, hehe. :)

Haha, that's not a splurge :)  ! But that is a damn good haul with some real choice pieces.
The way I shop now is totally splurge-centric. I came back from Botcon with about seventy figures but I'd only bought one or two a month for most of the year. I hate paying postage and when it comes to G1 figures I like to inspect figures rather than rely on ebay.
My next big splurge will be BOTs or CONs or Auto Assembly, whichever is the next TF convention I get to, and I imagine that will be very trade-heavy.

I agree plus I get an earful if I do that too often.

To be honest, I leave my cards at home these days and never even want to have a paypal account.

I splurge once a year, my Birthday. Nobody has a clue as to what I want or even how to go about finding it so I just buy all my own gifts. Other then that, I keep my figures at roughly 1 to 2 a month.

I just ended my splurge mode actually. If you look at my collection (in signature), all of that was purchased or received from trades since early April. It's a bittersweet feeling. You get what you want, but you're left with an aching wallet. Personally, I'm an impatient person and I try to get what I want as soon as I reasonably can since I'm going to end up getting it anyway.

Once in a while, I splurge. It's a fun release. Sometimes it's random, when I have a lot more money after paying bills than usual, or when I have a good run of eBay sales. I also always plan a splurge around Comic-Con, though even then it's not all that big of a splurge.
