The old CV Appreciation thread is pretty buried, and covered DOTM quite well - but now we have a while new batch of legends and commanders to talk over. After finding Cliffjumper the other day, the bug bit hard; three days and two Targets later, I've the entire legion wave 1 perched on my desk. Might whip up more in-depth review threads down in the appropriate section later for the ones that aren't present. As a whole, I'm very impressed so far. The legion figures feel a lot more cohesive than the DOTM CV line - I know five isn't a good sample size, but it's a start. What we've seen in photos continues the trend, helped by the fact that half the figures aren't redecos of older molds. Not even too bothered by the rubber accessories. Energon weapons didn't bug me in Energon either. One small and truly irrational like - I'm inordinately pleased to see roles/functions and two-sentence bios back on the legends figures. I plan on posting proper notes in the appropriate threads, but here are my quick two-cent reviews: CJ - sweet retro car mode, transformation that would still be interesting on a much larger figure; excellent articulation for the size with all ten major joints present (shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, ankles), eight of them balljoints. Ratchet - solid blocky lil truck, far simpler conversion that is still a bit unusual with leaving the legs at an angle. A little more than expected legion-class articulation (shoulders/hips/one of elbows or knees) thanks to the ankle transformation, fair detailing in robot mode. May take a toothpick and re-dot in his eyes. BB - Fine little car, painted headlights are neatly done. If you've transformed one legends!BB, you've transformed them all. Lousy articulation, looks like he should have knees but doesn't; buttflap and calf panels making moving the legs hard. Still, the way the front wheels angle in with the arms to fill out the torso, and the grill not being a solid slab are interesting. Surprisingly okay despite the flaws. Arcee - Motorcycles at legends-size are difficult, but she does great. Neat metallic-teal paint for the headlight and windscreen; my sample doesn't peg together great in vehicle mode, but isn't too bad. A little hard to keep upright in bike mode. The legs transforming with different rotation to take care of the wheels is unusual. Bot mode is a little spindly, plus the kibblewings, otherwise great even with legend-standard joints. Vehicon - wicked car mode. Someone's already digibashed it, but I expect to see Batmobile repaints. Even simpler transofmration than Ratchet, but it's unusual to have to fold a head out on a legion-class instead of just moving parts around it. Appropriately hunchbacked and lurker-ey in robot mode. May need more than one of this guy. Of the three weapons we get with this lot, I don't really have a favourite. Swapped one of the gun/blades to Arcee though, it makes a way better kickstand than the double blaster. Also, redeco ideas: CJ - as previously noted in his review thread, green plastic and orange eyes for Cybertron Downshift. Shouldn't need any other deco changes. Maybe swap the weapon to the double blaster. Ratchet - ...difficult, in a way. If the upcoming Commander Ironhide is -red-, then all of Ratchet's plastic becomes black. Deco changes to red and yellow stripe on the vehicle sides, with a little red and blue on the robot chest. Et voila, Trailcutter/Trailbreaker. On the other hand, if Ironhide is black, you "can't" have two black trucks. So...red becomes green; black windows become blue, add yellow/orange detailing to make Cybertron Overhaul...in a stealth Trailbreaker nod anyway. BB - Already have red with CJ in all size classes; already have blue with Hot Shot in deluxe. So...white plastic, stripes become blue, paint the helmet blue in robot mode. Pick out the foglamp details on the bumper and call 'im Searchlight. Arcee - Turn blue plastic to yellow, paint the arms purple instead of black. Instant Road Rocket - especially if she takes the other half of Cliffjumper's weapon swap for the sword like the original toy had. Wouldn't be the first time implied gender changed for a character (Hi, Botcon Dragstrip!). Vehicon - Easy. Purple plastic becomes black, grey becomes brown. Deco trades purple stripes for neon-green panels for Lockdown. The weird axe-gun-thing still suits. |

Arcee has a great sculpt while Cliffjumper has great articulation. I also ordered Ratchet the other day for like over twice the retail price, but whatever, it's Ratchet, lol. DIRGEI plan on getting most (if not all) of these guys. Can't wait for Knock Out and Breakdown. |
