I've been out of the game for a long time, just taking care of other priorities first and whatnot. With my tax return coming, I figured a little spoiling myself wouldn't be the end of the world so I kinda wanted to pick up a figure from the Prime line. It's either gonna be Bulkhead (kinda fond of the character, and I like the way it looks) or Starscream (ditto here) but..I'm really not sure which. I kinda prefer voyagers to deluxes, more bang for your back (generally) and whatnot.

Which is the better figure? I tend to be more fond of somewhat involved or at least interesting transformations, which Bulkhead seems to have over Starscream. But I also really like how Screamer looks.

Bulkhead hands down!!! Not only will you have arguably the most rare of prime figures but you will get a very satisfying figure.... Now dont get me wrong I have Starscream and he is all kinds of awesome, but he aint no Bulkhead...... So in my opinion please go with Bulkhead????

...rare? That kinda worries me now. I figured finding the figures in general may end up being a bit of a crap shoot (the Target I work at doesn't have any, neither does the Walmart my friend works at, figured I'd check the only TRU anywhere near me once I got my tax return next week) since I've not been hunting for them at all, but he's actually hard to find?

Also, what's up with the whole First Edition vs RiD thing going on? What's actually available on shelves?

I would have to say Bulkhead even though I'm hunting Starscream down.

The FE Voyagers didn't really hit the US market, only Canada, and he's rare up there and eBay's shot up the price due to the rarity. The US only really got Deluxe Bee, Arcee and Scream, not even Cliff. Get ready to spend about $70 for a Hasbro Bulk.

As for FE vs RiD, a lot of people feel that the FE line had better engineering in general while RiD will be the mainline, and for some reason, doesn't seem to have the same quality.

Assuming you're referring to First Edition Starscream and Bulkhead, you're going to have a hard time finding either one as the line has been cancelled and the Robots In Disguise line is taking over. RID Starscream will be Voyager class and isn't out yet. I don't have First Edition Bulkhead but First Edition Starscream is one of the best Transformers released in the past year.

First Edition is a limited, store-exclusive "preview" release wave, that was out starting last November, with less-than-stellar distribution.

Bulkhead's the rare one. Not only is he packed one-per-case of four, thus far, the First Edition Voyagers have only been sighted in Asia and Canada. No US release thus far. TakaraTomy has their own release of the mold in Japan with a darker colourscheme, but that'll set you back the usual import prices. Either way, it's gonna cost you.

Robots in Disguise is the new catch-all non-Movie subline, it seems, and the full launch of the Prime toyline will be under that header. It will have all-new molds of the same characters, and it shouldn't be hard to find any of them. So you could always wait for that one and hope it turns out well.

Bulkhead is rare because he was one to a case and was never released in the US so if he comes here in the future it will be at discount stores and if there is a RID prime Bulkhead it will be an absolute different figure with the light gimmick......

Well, if you wait for the RiD line launch, there'll be a new-mold Voyager Starscream, and a Bulkhead to look forward to.

And FE Deluxe Starscream's supposed to get a re-release alongside FE Bumblebee in another Entertainment pack, although no clue how or where that's supposed to get distributed.

So which figures are out in the RiD Prime line right now, in the US?

Also, light gimmick? I so abhor gimmicks, what is it this time?

No, there've been sighting at a few Targets in California and such.

    First Wave is:

    Deluxe:
    Bumblebee
    Cliffjumper
    Wheeljack
    Soundwave

    Voyager:
    Optimus Prime
    Megatron

None of those toys are the same molds as the First Editions.

As for gimmicks, the Voyagers have a flip-out Mechtech-style weapon that lights up when activated, and a patch of translucent plastic in the forearms so that the light from the weapon can shine through it and make it look like the figure is "energizing" the weapon.

Looking at the pics, a lot of the deluxes look bad (Cliffjumper especially) though Soundwave and the Vehicon do look cool (and I like the RiD Vehicon more than the other mold).

Voyagers, well the new Prime looks awful. Megs looks cool.

Guess I didn't really miss out, what with the line never making it here in the first place, but my God I'm kinda pissed now.

Well, I think both Vehicons are bitchin', and being able to have 2 molds of something that's essencially the same soldier character makes it better. It's like sweet, I can have the twins without having to buy the same toy twice hah.

No, RID is out. I bought a few a couple of days ago.

    Alright, here's the deal:

    TF: Prime's First Editions included:

    Deluxe:
    Bumblebee(W1)
    Starscream(W1)
    Arcee(W1)
    Cliffjumper(W1.5)
    Vehicon(?)
    Terrorcon Cliffjumper(?)

    Voyagers:
    Optimus Prime
    Bulkhead

Op vs. Megatron Entertainment Pack w/ the kids.

Canada, Singapore, the UK, and a few other countries got all of those except the Vehicon and the Terrorcon Cliffjumper at least a month ago. Wave 1 of the Deluxes were released only at TRU late November, and we never got the rest. Hasbro says they're cancelled for us, and then the online prices shot up. BBTS and other stores cancelled the preorders they've had for months, and everyone went into an absolute Windcharger panic. Bulkhead is especially hard to find, since he was shortpacked.

The regular line just launched with the "Robots in Disguise" subline tag. The first wave includes:

    Deluxe:
    Bumblebee(different, inferior mold)
    Cliffjumper(Terrorcon mold repurposed, inferior)
    Soundwave
    Wheeljack

    Voyager:
    Optimus Prime(different, inferior mold)
    Megatron

There is an upcoming Voyager Bulkhead coming, but judging by the trend it will be a different, inferior mold. There's a new Arcee that doesn't look too bad judging by a fuzzy picture, and there will be a Bumblebee vs Starscream pack which may use FE BB. Also, there will be a Voyager Starscream and a new mold Vehicon.

I'm sad to say the ship has sailed on FE unless The Little 3(Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshalls) come through for us.
