Ok gang, this is an appreciation thread   Save the hate for the h8rs :lol

I think this is a very interesting question, especially considering that "The Rebirth" (or the lack of renewal for a fourth season green light). Also, we don't have as much of a time machine for that the time period (just try to find some photos of the toy isles of any Transformers, for example).

Just venturing a guess, I'd think that the main four Headmaster Autobots were fairly popular. I don't think Fortress Maximus sold well, but it did well enough to have enough pieces still floating around sealed as well as loose/complete. I honestly think one our best gauges is to see what's more common.

I think that certainly in a useful gauge. But these toys were all made in the same quantity and there are so many stories here and elsewhere of people not being able to get the exact toy they wanted as a kid so "settling" for another character instead. I also can't imagine there were too many Headmasters which went completely unsold.

With the Autobot Targetmasters it would be fascinating to know how popular the new characters were compared to Hot Rod, Blurr and Kup.

Like you say, there's no way of knowing for sure.

When the Headmasters started showing up on shelves I was going through my (I'm too old for toys) phase lol.
I did manage to get Highbrow when nobody was looking HA,
Anyway, I could never really get my head around the headmaster concept. Not until Power Master Prime came out did I take notice again.

Although the Season 3 and the storyline has always been my favorite when I got back into collecting finding out about Headmasters, Powermasters and Pretenders has been the best part. I love that there's more to the story then just what the popular or most adored characters are up to.
I'll take a Masterpiece version of Bludgeon over another Megs, StarScream Soundwave or Shockwave any day. But that's just me.

Great pics, but no fair :)  I've had Darkwing complete since I was a kid, but I've never had a Dreadwind. Why's he so dang expensive? :(

Actually, a funny story, and I'm not sure if there is any truth in it, but there are rumors that someone literally tried to 'corner the market' on G1 Dreadwing's from eBay, buying a lot of the ones that were sold, and creating an artificial shortage of Dreadwing's. Ah yes... this old forum topic gives a bit more info (and proves I'm not making this up!)

gotta agree here, and the firecons, going completionist on g1, and couldn't skip them, but they're garbage.

micromasters are some of my favorites, the bases and all the different alt modes (and exactly 12 repaints in the entire US line) there was a ton of variety, and play value in them. i can see why some don't like them, but they're better than most combiner limbs (and in some cases a lot more complex)

    speaking of Micromasters and Pretenders:

So I finally got the 3 Decepticon Targetmasters, took some sandpaper and a file to Triggerhappy and suscessfuly removed most of the yellowing on the gray parts. Now kind of nervous to do it to Sludgslinger and Hun Grrr.

nice, but why not peroxide? sandpaper and a file would damage it would it not?

I heard those that used the peroxide have found the TFs they used it on have re-yellowed and are even worse now. Just a warning for those considering this option.

    Sandpaper and a file???
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that's a terrible solution: the yellowing is caused by exposure of plastic to UV-light: filing off the outer layer is just exposing a new layer of plastic to turn yellow! At least with peroxide, the same layer of plastic will turn yellow, without actual surface damage.

I've tried the peroxide on a G1 scourge, and it worked, but the places with stichers also got lighter too.

I can't help but laugh at that. Maybe that's part of the reason he's so expensive. He's a very simple toy by the looks of things, I just need him to go with Darkwing, who's always been one of my favorites.

That looks immaculate, the Horrorcons were simply marvellous. I had both as a child and they are still in good working condition today, I was completely enamored by those as a kid.

    Congratulations on an excellent purchase.

    All the best

Nice score!!!!!!!! I can match you with the exception of Bludgeon, so much pain to part with $$$$ to get the small Pretenders lol

I will get there and it looks like they are all in very nice condition as well
