I don't like them on RotF Sideways, Jolt, or anywhere else it's done.

I like what they did with Classics Optimus Prime's waist. I like it with the Henkei! Henkei! paint even more.

It always bothered me the most on MP-01, the duel radiator grill. At least on Classics Voyager Prime I can understand it, because it is a massively different shaped grill to attain an aesthetically pleasing slimline waist (which is a ridiculous sentence to write about a robot), but on MP-01 its the same size and everything, it just felt cheap.

My only problem with it is that they didn't bother to paint them, but I guess those paint aps got cut out for budgetary reasons or whatever causes certain things to get paint aps while other stuff on a figure gets ignored. As for "cheats," I prefer them too since I'd prefer an attempt at accuracy, as best they can manage it. A toy can have a cheat and still be fun, so what do I care? The wheels on DotM Prime only look weird because they're not painted, not because they're molded in there.

We've got to the stage where we're complaining about 'realism' in ficticious toy robots that turn into vehicles? Amazing...

In the end it's all about aesthetics, and more specifically how we need almost all of our alien robots to have HUMANOID PROPORTIONS. It really shouldn't matter if a bot has 2 arms/2 legs, head, torso etc. but then the fandom would be bitching to no end about how ugly a character is. And let's not even get started on how female bots are always structured (slender/sleek)...

Example: Classics/Henkei voyager Optimus Prime for example (and most Primes). A well-built "chest", with the fake grill needed to resemble "six-pack abs"

The movie twins both have FIVE tires in robot mode and FOUR tires in vehicle mode. Their toys aren't accurate because they DON'T produce an extra tire out of nowhere.

    Your point is amusing, though.

I also dislike fake window chests on my Primes along with those grills.

Um. Most cars have spare tires. So most cars do have 5 tires.

Just pointing out, In the show Cliff's head folds into his back/rear of the car, and his car horns come out of his hood. There is a little time between those parts of the transformation so his head could fold all the way forward, but it would be safe to assume that the car horns are just part of his car mode. Kind of in the same way that just because Movie!Prime has an Autobot hood ornament doesn't mean it forms his logo in robot mode.

On topic; I don't really mind cheats when it can be explained away as just techy detailing, like Jolt's tire legs or DoTM!Prime's chest looking like armor.

I'd much rather have a good toy that cheats than a crappy one that doesn't.

Or you can design a good toy that doesn't cheat right from the start too. It's been done before.

Agreed. I have other things to worry about in my life than if a toy has 1 or 2 "extra" cheats on it. Jeeze.

I guess if a toys shifts the tires some place where they are fake ones like Voyager DOTM Optimus then the other wheels need to be well hidden so Perhaps Optimus other wheels should not have been on his hands though should have been under his back wings or embedded inside his calves.

DOTM Voyager Optimus has unimpressive Aaron Archer designed like proportions anyway (i.e. he's all Pecs and almost no abs like TM2 Cheetor or TM2 Iguanus). The Deluxe is almost a better toy it only suffers due to the back kibble - it's certainly better painted anyway. (well the single packed one is the one sold with the trailer in 2012 seems to suffer from much of the same missing paint he DOTM Voyager does).

Anyway I painted the tires on my Voyager Prime - he's missing a heck of a lot of paint on him but he does look quite a bit better once his hip tires and hubs etc have been painted.

Oh and I quite like the idea of the spare tyre being moulded underneath and ending up as decoration on the characters back or as a gun- that's quite a fun in my view.

I don't mind fake bits if they hide well, but there are times where it makes no sense with the fake part and the real part visible like ROTF Dirge where he has a fake cockpit on his chest and the real cockpit on his one arm or legends jazz with his chest on the top of the car, which is supposed to be the front of the car becoming his chest.

I don't have a problem with faking it but...

I started modelling bumblebee from the various molds I have of him,
Then i looked at his cgi model to get more detail because it seemed each toy was different.
The kicker was none of the toy heads look like the movie head.

At least make the head right.
