To be fair, once they're outta the box you can call whatever coloured transformers whatever you like.

I wonder, how many would be happy if MP20 was indeed Megatron, but he turned into an Abrams tank like in that colour sheet we saw a long time ago?

One thing that I find crazy is that it took 6 years to release MP 1-9, and it took a little over 1 year to go from MP10-19.

I also think MP20 is megatron. One of those big number ones.

Just thought about this. Considering the latest MPs have had to make so sacrifices, what mode would you be willing to except Megatron to have sacrafices in?

He is one of those guys where he would have to be great in both modes I would almost think.

Arcee's the most likely this early in the MP line, I'd think.

I kind of DON'T want them to do Megatron version 2 for MP-20, personally I love MP-5 (but I can understand why some people don't). I'd much rather have Ultra Magnus (top of my list even though he'd be ANOTHER Autobot- he needs a REAL "not just a white recolor of Optimus" MP treatment) or Shockwave.

    What sacrifices?

I doubt they'll be releasing a tank Megatron, considering they're aiming for G1 toy/cartoon accuracy. Especially since we already had one that turned into a gun. They'll either make him a gun or they won't release one at all for the time being.

I'll never get this stance where MP line is concerned. MP is the ultimate version of G1......yes? G1 Ultra Magnus is a car carrier with a white cab.......yes?

Therefore it stands to reason that Magnus will be a white repaint of MP10 and his trailer will become the armour.

    Sacrifices? Huh? This isn't Classics.

Also, pretty much every MP is expected at this point to knock it out of the park in 'bot and alt mode. Megs is no different from anyone else.

won't happen, if they change him from the toon model it wont be an MP figure. If it get's released as a classics figure i still wouldn't buy it.

I think a good MP Megatron can be made, just one where the gun mode is oversized.

I don't think I was very clear lol. The whole white repaint of Optimus thing would be fine, but he HAS to have the armor so that he looks like the show.

That's the problem with MP-02 was that it was JUST the white Optimus repaint..

So far the following sacrafices have been made:

    - Sideswipe/Red Alert have the Arm transformation that produces bad lines on the alt mode.
    - MP Soundwave doesn't have anything to cover his back in Alt mode and the batteries don't store.

I am thinking some sacrifice would be made (ala trigger on MP5s legs, etc.). I personally think those sacrifices will come in the Gun mode. They won't do an MP of G2. That is not what the MP Line does.

BTW, how cool would it be if he came with a mini soundwave in alt mode. Only fair as Soundwave comes with a mini him. I still think Thundercracker should have came with a mini Reflector. That was a missed opportunity.

    Ahhh gotcha. Have faith :D

Totally agree, wst Soundwave fits the bill but is too hard to get. Shocky should come with a mini me version of himself too:

Isn't there a third party mini Reflector? I'd love to snag that for TC.

Damn right, have said this all along. Can still be the ONLY logical accessory if Takara eventually Thundercrack MP-11 (while Reflector himself is still my number one wished for MP post-Megs v2 as his 'toon self was so cool, though I may be alone in wishing this!)

But anyway .... guess we're up to MP20 now, more or less, so if this was effectively the halfway point, and you could only choose twenty more for the MP line, who would you want to see get the treatment?

For me, I base a lot of it on how well I feel existing representations serve my fan love of a character. So for example, whilst I worship Hound and Jazz, they're A.W.O.L. purely because their Henkei/Universe figures are so great.

And as for 3P, well, Huffer is served well by igear Rager. Shockwave's catered for too now Quakewave looks like being a more than adequate stand in. The 3P insecticons however, don’t quite give me the vibe of their ‘toon selves, so they’re included here. And so on ...

Anyway, my dearly hoped for twenty:

    ‘BOTS:

    1.Skyfire
    2. Springer
    3. Magnus
    4. Ironhide/Ratched
    5. Mirage
    6. Cliffjumper
    7. Swoop (second iconic Dinbot, imo, if I had to choose one more after Grimmy.)
    8. Sunstreaker
    9. Blaster

    and ‘CONS:

    10. Megs v2.
    11. Reflector
    12. Blitzwing
    13. Astrotrain
    14. Shrapnel
    15. Bombshell
    16. Kickback
    17. Galvatron
    18. Scourge
    19. Cyclonus
    20. Devastator.

Realistically we can all probably live without MP Blur, Wheelie, Perceptor etc, etc. Any of the above though? That's gotta hurt some fan faves right off the bat (and even then I know I've left off big faves like Kup, Trailbreaker, etc. Try it yourself with twenty. Sacrifices WILL be made, I assure you.)

A subjective exercise to be sure, so how do other people feel? What would be your justifications for the twenty that you chose and the ones that you left out?

While I don't have numbers, I have to assume the new MP line has been a success for TT. The demand is high for all of the releases since MP-10, with good reason.

I cannot fathom any reason why they would stray from the new formula for a new MP Megatron. They will give us pure, unadulterated, G1 bliss, and he will sit perfectly with the likes of MP-11 and MP-13. Anything less is really unacceptable.

I'm not saying that as a MP fanboy (which I have no problem admitting to), but rather the direction this line has gone. MP megs as a tank may have been acceptable in the early MP days when they were toying around with realistic fighters like the MP-3 design/deco. That's not the MP line anymore, for better or worse. There's no way a V2 MP Megs can show up and not be a P38....it would be suicide for the line after what they've been building to.

The MP line has really been great since the reboot of MP10 but it's nearly impossible to make the toys Exactly like the animation models. What we have so far is really the best that technology can offer at this point in time. Who knows, maybe in another 10 years we'll get another reboot.
As far as speculation we need a Reflector to round out the 84 Decepticons. There hasn't been much attention given to Reflector in TF history so they are due some love. Then we need Shockwave and Insecticons. But Astrotrain is the character i'm keeping my fingers crossed for.
With Autobots we need VW Bumblebee despite the legal issues. The rest of the cars and i'd really like a reboot of Grimlock and Hotrod in better scale.

I'm very curious to see how will they do the minibots.
They're supposed to have chibified alt modes. Will VW still put up a fight if Takara makes them toy/cartoon accurate?

I would think thats the loophole that Takara should use legally. Bumbebee isnt really a VW bug...he just kinda resembles one. I mean, is MP10's alt mode a real truck? Not really, its made up.

Freightliner C.O.E.(Cab Over Engine) But then again the original toy was fairly accurate as the same thing.

The only real thing that deviates is the legs, but then again that is the normal spot for deviation on a prime mold. The Bumblebee toy on the other hand was based on a toy with a pullback motor and a place to weight the back end with a coin so it would wheelie when released... the throttlebots actually got fairly close to what the original bumblebee was designed after! In the Cartoon Bumblebee scaled to probably a half sized VW that was penny racer shaped.

right, but MP 10 doesnt try to be identical like MP Lambor for instance. Did Takara have to get permission to make it?

I don't think they needed a license in order to make MP-10.
