Does anyone think that if they had a MP Ratbat he would probably be with someone else besides Soundblaster?

Not unless its with another cassette and they are released as a two-pack. I just don't know who else they'd release him with.

I would hope so. I'd be pissed if he only came with Soundblaster because I have no interest in him, but would really like to have Ratbat, being that I'm a big Marvel Comics fan.

The original Soundblaster toy comes with Buzzsaw and I'd have to say if Soundblaster was released with one or more of the already released tapes, it kind of sucks, especially the people that paid for MP-15/16. So, if they were to do Soundblaster the only alternatives I see is he's a standalone item (debatable), or he comes with some other tape(s) that hasn't been released yet. Didn't we see MP Ratbat in those early reveals? I probably could see them releasing Soundblaster with Buzzsaw and Ratbat and I'd be fine with that. Other than the colour difference of Soundblaster at least we'd get a new tape to make the set enticing. I don't see it being released by Hasbro either.

If it were up to me, I'd release Ratbat with the Blue Frumble with gold chrome and gold weapons, to emulate the original American release of Ratbat.

MP Soundblaster should come with Wing Thing and Enemy.

If they make an MP Soundblaster, I hope they make it more like the toy and make his chest orange, and stick out. If it's exactly the same as Soundwave but with the blue parts black (like the animation model) that's pretty boring and not a good value for a repaint. Even the black repaint of Optimus had a newly tooled part...the Decepticon symbol.

Dunno. Hopefully at Tokyo Toy Show we see lots of news about upcoming MPs!!

I can't see him coming with Buzzsaw. I mean, the original Soundwave toy came with Buzzsaw too, after all. I don't think Takara will pull something that low.

I think it's bound to be Ratbat.

I've feared all along that they only way to get MP Ratbat would be to buy the inevitable Soundblaster repaint, which I don't want. Ratbat is the only "must have" Casseticon left, IMO, but as much as I'd want him, I can't see myself buying Soundblaster just to get him.

I don't see either Takara or Hasbro being willing to release Ratbat on his own, and there really is no natural Cassetticon choice to package him with that I can think of. The best option I could see for an individual release for Ratbat would be a convention exclusive or something along those lines. SDCC Ratbat anyone?

Is there any obscure Laserbeak repaint they could pack him with? I mean, I suppose we COULD see Ratbat packed with those dino-cassettes or something in a 2-pack...

Here's an idea...Ratbat could be packaged with SG Ravage. Am I the only one who's thought of this?

I was thinking more about the Ratbat issue and it strikes me that his omission thus far would seem to support the conclusion that Takara is concentrating on the early characters over others. Ravage, Rumble, Frenzy, Buzzsaw and Laserbeak were the original five tapes, and those are the ones we got. Ratbat, a relatively popular cassette, was omitted. Why if not because its Takara's intention to give us the early Diaclone types before anything else?

As to who Ratbat might eventually come with, I'm not sure its a safe assumption to say we'll ever see him. Sure, I could see him packaged with a Soundblaster repaint of Soundwave, but then again you're talking about a whole new mold for what is basically an accessory. I'm not convinced Takara would release a new figure that way, especially since it would be cheaper to just repaint MP-13 as MP-13s and be done with it.

Furthermore, if Ratbat doesn't come with a Soundwave repaint, then I don't see him making an appearance for a long, long time. Even at the relatively quick pace we're getting MPs, Ratbat probably won't be on the docket for years. Its not safe to assume the MP line will go on for such a long period of time. Yes, its a hot line now, but Takara could easily change direction in the middle, rebooting it or focusing on something else. I would rate our chances at getting a Ratbat as relatively low overall, unless the MP lines chugs along at a steady pace for a good six, seven years.

Under the alternately critical and yet commonly well funded eye of we Masterpiece fans/collectors, just about any solution to this hypothetical mess seems like -what's the saying? - robbing Peter to pay Paul.

To answer your first question, yes, Garboil is a Decepticon reuse of the Laserbeak mold: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Garboil_(G1)

Now this is a pretty good example of my point. Garboil at least so far only exists as an e-Hobby exclusive, and we could imagine them feeling like they were missing out if Takara - or I suppose Hasbro - started calling dibs on characters they're associated with.

Not that this stops Hasbro or Takara from doing just that. Sundor and Tigertrack both started out as e-Hobby exclusives. Sundor now has a broad release figure as one of FoC Blaster's data disks, and Masterpiece Tigertrack won't be a store exclusive, but will of course sell through the Tokyo Toy Show; maybe any exclusive s fair game for MP treatment after all.

Onto Ratbat. Sure, I suppose for example Takara could package Overkill with MP Soundblaster while pairing Ratbat and Slugfest in a smaller set; a cunningly simple cross sell for anyone who wants both dinosaur cassettes.

Putting all three cassettes in a set goes against an established release format, but isn't impossible. To put all these possibilities into context, I'll reiterate a question I asked on here recently. Would anyone seriously expect MP Soundblaster to come without a cassette?

I somehow doubt it. ;)  I daresay some of the resistance to Ratbat being paired with the as yet unannounced MP Soundblaster is because it seems to be a likely, clean fit, even if fans dislike it for financial reasons or otherwise being disinterested in a big black repaint of MP-13.

It would be cool if this was cleared up at the Tokyo Toy Show, though the same could be said of MP-11 derived versions of Thundercracker and Skywarp, so I wouldn't be holding my breath. ;)  That's not so bad though; we may find out about MP Ultra Magnus or an entirely new Masterpiece mold.

Well here's the thing. If(when?) they decide to make MP SG Soundwave(they already have the mold, and SG SW was recently made from the G1 mold), they're gonna want to pack the most recognized SG cassette with him. Alternatively, same with Ratbat. They decide to make MP Soundblaster, who would he be packed with if not MP Ratbat?

Well, I was just thinking packaging SG Ravage with Ratbat might be a way to test the market for a SG Soundwave? As for Soundblaster...perhaps no cassettes is better so they can keep the price lower? SG Soundwave could come with SG Laserbeak & Buzzsaw or SG Frenzy & Rumble...or none at all. Just an idea. Although I doubt we'll see SG Masterpieces...if we were gonna see 'em, I think a SG MP10 would've been made by now.

Has there been a(n) SG release that wasn't TFCC or e-Hobby?

    SG MP's will never happen.
