I actually was referring to the episode "Grimlock's New Brain" where he has the headgear (as in IGrimlock's avatar) and Grimlock makes the Technobots.

 

Here's the thing though... what happens if they jump on a close-enough Wheeljack just to get one out the door, and a year or so later, find themselves in a position to secure the license from Lancia? You'd have one group of fans howling for a more accurate release, another howling that TT is double-dipping. Or, what if they do a close-enough Wheeljack and alienate Lancia altogether, precluding any future fully accurate Wheeljack toys? It's probably better for TT to do what they can do easily now, and work on the more difficult stuff a bit at a time. Or... they may already have the license and are engineering some awesomeness as we speak.

Jazz is a different situation, as I doubt that they'll ever get the Porsche license. Simply put, Porsche has nothing to gain by compromising their ideological stance. And even with close-enough, I'm not so sure Porsche would take that lying down. The legal ramifications might not be worth the hassle to TT. As a fan I'd love to see something happen, but I fear that G1-accurate Jazz, Bumblebee, and Cliffjumper may never materialize.

Do them properly or don't do them at all. They've rebranded the line by doing everything as accurate as possible, please don't say you'd want a semi accurate toy just to bypass licensing. Deep down you know you'd buy another version that's accurate, so why bother with a semi accurate one....I bet before Sideswipe we weren't expecting a Lambo licensed transformer, but look what happened.  

 

Well, the VW Group owns Lamborghini as well.......and we have MP12 & 14....so you never know!

 

My 2018 wishlist I figure that should be long enough for Takara to make us a new Grimlock I'm sure the demand will be there again and this time we'll get his team with him.

I really hope we see Hound before 2018, that's a ways off. Too far off for my liking.

 

Man, 2018 is taking, like, FOREVER to get here. I would be very happy if these guys were in the cards. Even if I have to wait until I'm 42, I will keep buying my toys  

 

I couldn't find an early spot to put him in and since Takara only gives us 5 MP's a year (which is a lot better than it used to be) he got pushed back.

Plus he would be the only using the Mitsubishi license.

 

It'd be an amusing feature to throw in, but it's not a mandatory one for me. I'll be preordering regardless.

I'd be good with a little effect part that could clip onto Wheeljack's head to capture the light-up effect instead; if they could do so with Red Alert (where the effect occurred in one episode and never again), I don't see why they couldn't with Wheeljack, where it was a signature characteristic of that particular character.

Also on Wheeljack....a light gimmick would be cool but not a deal breaker if it never happened.

 

I would hope if TT pulls a do-over for Grimlock, they're smart enough to do it last.

 

I'm thinking since he has no repaint value that Takara would put him towards the back and make money for the MP line with characters that have repaints available.

I'd rather have a MP Jazz and Wheeljack now that aren't their respective car modes and only slightly different then wait 5 years or more to hope they can get the license and redo it.

If they eventually made official licensed ones would I get them? Depends on many things. If it's the same line, if they've rebooted it by then. If I have really accurate bot modes and the car modes are off by 10% then it wont bother me that much. And I'd rather have them now then wait. No one knows what can happen in that time. Enjoy life and all the things in it you can now. You could be waiting and it could never happen, something could happen to you. You never know. So yeah I would prefer it being released sometime in the near future then wait for the possibility of "maybe" they can get a license.

So the "Do them properly or not at all" Does not fly with me at all. Because I rather have them be off by 10% then not ever get them. Period. And I rather take the chance of the choice of getting them again later on then not having any at all.

 

Yeah, this. I'm pretty sure TT will be trying their hardest to get the various licenses, but if they fail and have to fall back on a tweaked 'likeness', that will be the finished product and no doubt we will all still marvel over it. Besides, once those MP characters are done they won't go back and try for the license again, what would be the point? They will just move on to the next of the many figures we are eagerly awaiting.

 

I hope they make some headway with Porsche. I don't just want Jazz, I want Stepper, Minerva, Nightbeat, Dead End, even Backstreet!

 

I hope so too. I will gladly take a likeness if there's no alternative, but a true license is always preferable.

I hold out some hope for Porsche. It was interesting that TCracker asked if we would mind MP Jazz not having the Martini sponsorship, but didn't touch on whether we would mind if he wasn't a Porsche (which is surely a far bigger deal to most of us). Is that because the issue has already been resolved I wonder?

 

Maybe. But also maybe b/c, unlike the G1 toy, G1 Cartoon Jazz didn't have any markings on him either. Just the number "4". Since they're going for cartoon accuracy (their robot modes are not as loud as the toys were, what w/ their stickers and all), I'd say this is the more likely way to go. One less party to seek licensing from.

 

Don't forget Cliffjumper who is a Porsche 924.

Speaking of Cliffjumper, his alt mode is a Porsche 924 but it's Super Deformed (Penny Racer style). If we do see a Masterpiece Cliffjumper, should he be a proper Porsche 924 or should they go with the Super Deformed look. This isn't as much an issue with Bumblebee as the Beetle is actually a pretty squat car, but Cliffjumper's alt. mode is extremely squished; something that carried over into the G1 cartoon. I'm also curious as how this might impact any licensing issues.

So on my opinion about same original molds vs different cartoon models...

I think MP Minerva and MP Nightbeat will have different molds.

I think MP Bruticus and MP Battle Gaia will have different molds.

I think MP Cheetor and MP Tigatron will have different molds.

And maybe... just MAYBE... MP G2 Bruticus will have MP Battle Gaia's mold. Dudeicus only existed in toy form so far, after all.
