Technically we have Seizan as a Jan announcement, but revealing Jazz on New Years would be something.

Makes me wonder if they would try to get the sponsors on board and like Skids release a toon and toy/real world version at the same time.

With Porshe announcing they've joined the Transformer family, instead of Jazz, they will announce Mirage next month.

 

Who owns the licensing rights to the car G1 mirage is based on? I’m sure it was a very specific race car with a limited production run. At one point I thought someone said it was owned by Ford but I would assume we would have already seen Mirage if that’s the case. Anyone know the situation on Mirage? Gears, Huffer and Brawn are simplified versions of real world vehicles, right?

 

And I hope these resemble their on screen altmodes. I really hate the 3P Cliffjumper's based off real Porsche. It just doesn't look right

 

If Cliffjumper ever gets released, its a pretty good sign they will continie eith chibi altmodes. Ono is kind of a stickler for altmodes, so I could possibly see a swing back or most likely the continuation of altmode gimmicks, opening doors, hoods,engine details, and whatever else.

 

If I remember right, I think the last time this came up it was unclear who actually owned the rights to the JS11. But I think the livery is also a potential issue.

As for the minibots, TFwiki says Huffer is similar to the Volvo F88 and Brawn resembles a Suzuki Jimny SJ20. I think Gears is just a generic truck, but the wiki says there are characteristics of the Dodge Power Wagon and a Kaiser Jeep M715.

 

99% sure last time this was discussed it was Ford that was found out to be the owners, it had a Cossie engine so they were definitely involved to some degree. I think both Mirage and Jazz are are matter of when now, not if.

From what I’ve seen of folks that seemed reasonably well-informed and I could fact check, it’s a combo of the car model being deemed somewhat difficult - not Porsche-level, mind - but tough because Ligier’s ownership is a bit muddy, and the livery itself not having clear ownership which might cause some issues because you’re talking about French cigarette company and a French oil & gas company.

That wouldn't really be an issue for a toon accurate paint scheme, would it? With Gitanes changed to Citanes and no other branding, there's not much to object to.

 

Honestly, I could use a bit of happy anticipation in my favorite line right about now.
Crappy day at work and to add even more stress, our family dog tore his ACL and needs surgery to fix it. The surgery is over 4 grand. So now we're all scraping together money, and I am cancelling items left and right to put towards the surgery. Life isn't throwing lemons, it's throwing rocks painted like lemons.
So an MP CJ, MP Jazz, hell even an MPM Mirage announcement will give me something to look forward to right now.

That point might be easy, but you still have to deal with Ligier and Elf.

It’s similar to the problems with dealing with Jazz’ livery. There’s more to it than just Porsche (though they are the big one). I’m fine with Citanes, and if they can get away with it Liger, but the logos themselves and the shape and style of the letters may be protected. It’s not just spelling, mind.

My point was that the toon version doesn't include Elf or any other logos. The other livery would only be an issue if Takara chooses to do a toy version, which isn't really a thing anymore.

 

Mirage and Jazz will have toon decos for sure. 100%. They may do Diaclone repaints as well, but that is optional and if it's too much of a pain they won't bother. I'm sure Toyhax or someone else will provide stickers as a backup plan.

 

Not sure, since I'm not a lawyer (thankfully). However, I've come to understand that if you can see what it is meant to be, you still need licensing.

A Ligier F1 race car with Citanes on it...well, that's very clearly meant to be Gitanes just misspelled. Wouldn't surprise me if they'd still need permission to use it.

 

Interestingly, the Kingdom Mirage used 'orc' instead of 'elf', which is a pretty good Tolkien-esque way to get around a licence issue...

 

The trainbots are aimed to be released not after December 2023 according to a rep, right? We have for now 5 new molds next year, and i'm not counting the MPM and MP not yet announced
