So what with the International Tokyo Toy Show kicking off tomorrow, any moles on the ground (well, underground) for intel?

Time to start the hype train for a new mould-MP that doesn't materialise to set ourselves up for crashing disappointment, folks.

It's part of the toy fair routine here. :D

Moles ... start your engines. o_O

    MP-39+ or MP 40+

Wouldn't an MP-36+2 be funny, Full on damaged megs with painted and molded dents and scratches.

I don't believe in this idea that TT try to finish up one thing before moving onto the next. There's no reason why they couldn't start Devastator before the Arkbots are finished, after all Porsche might still not be on board in the next three years, who knows (no updates on that Jada Jazz).

The only thing @TTemploy confirmed is that MP-50 isn't supposed to be a G1 release (no confirmation either way on what 48 or 49 are).

It could very well be the introduction of a new series, although don't they have that Legends Armada Optimus that they're releasing soon? At this point I wouldn't expect another series coming into the MP line just yet, is it some significant anniversary of Armada's?

If MP-50 isn't a G1 MP, then it seems like they don't care about that as a significant number. The biggest BW names have already been taken, too. Could be Tigatron or Rattrap or Rhinox (probably not another Predacon just yet?).

Detritus may end up being MP-49 or MP-51 (lately they've spaced out the numbered non-show repaints from their original moulds).
    So MP-48...
    Finally a minibot?
A non carbot (like Blaster or Perceptor)?
    Another carbot already?
    An A-lister like Galvatron?

Feels a little too soon for Starscream v3.

I guess v2 Grimlock could be MP-48/49, but that seems really soon for another v2/3 after Prime and Bumblebee this year.

Blaster's starting to make a lot of sense to me, because of the timing of the Soundwave reissue.

At the moment I feel it's soon for a new mould to be revealed anyway. Not when there's 4 new moulds still to come. If anything, it's repaint-announcement time.

MP-39+ or MP-39R (which could be MP-48). Or perhaps MP-19+ Smokescreen.

@TTemploy, do Diaclone homage repaints count as G1 to you? ;)  It could make some kind of sense to do red Sunstreaker as MP-50 considering its historical significance, IF TT gives any thought to "important" numbers.

That's why I used the words 'supposed to be'. :thumb

We know well from the past that TT's plans can change quite often, hopefully the people who used to attack TC's credentials will refrain from doing so anymore with anyone new. If anyone does say anything negative to you though, TTemploy, please ignore them. Even a little nugget like this can breathe new life into this thread. We love these little hints!

Grimlock v2 maybe. The rest? Too minor of characters at too expensive of a price point with no good repaint options. Sure, there's G2, but what's that going to attract? A 2000 piece TT Mall exclusive run, if even that? Does Japan care about G2 Dinos? They didn't even do MP-8 in G2 colors...they opted instead to do a random comic repaint...

Kind of off-topic (but related to the subject overall), but did you guys see the new Shortpacked? :)  Shortpacked! - Oh Dinobot, if only there were someone who loved you

Which is weird, because that was an American comic (or was it also available in Japan?).

I tend to agree with this statement. I don't put TOO much stock in the "Japan doesn't like dinosaurs" thing (that can't be 100% true, but I'm sure there's some degree of truth in there that got lost in the translation), but I think, what, maybe $250-300 for each of the other-than-Grimlock guys is probably too much for them to ask for, with the possible exception of Swoop.

Yeah, Japan not liking dinosaurs is some heap of bullshit after MP-41 and MP-43.

I'm not sure how likely the other Dinobots are, though, either. I would put Devastator as more probable/possible.

And that's good enough for me:) . Nobody was expecting 3 new molds after mp-44, we figured it would be similar to Megatron and we would sit on repaints till December. After Hound , normal expectations are they shut down for hibernation till next Summer. The fact that its a chance to a be something else is more than enough to make me happy.

I don't assume Japan doesn't like dinos...but I would question how much they care about G2 Dinos. I don't think even N.A. cares about G2 Dinos, save for the most die-hard. FT only did runs of like 500 or some shizz.

I also wonder how much they (and by 'they' I mean Grimlock because he's the only one I think stands a chance) would actually be? How big is Beast Wars Megs? G1 MP Dinos should be like MP-22 size (though MP-22 should have been shorter...but that's another rant.)

I went through and looked up the box office of the Jurassic Park movies a while back, and dig up some details on dinosaur exhibits and parks in Japan during the 80’s, and it’s decidedly not true.

I suspect this is a convenient reasoning that developed from a broken telephone thing. Maybe it started as a joke by a Japanese designer “we don’t like dinosaurs, we like kaiju, hahah”? Regardless, there’s no real indicators it is or has ever been true.

It isn't Armada's 20th anniversary yet, not until 2022, but Car Robots' 20th is coming up next year. Now, I've never believed any of them would get the MP treatment, but reflecting on your earlier concern about the lack of a new Lamborghini on the horizon, Mach Alert was a Diablo... HMMM...

Rhinox could make for a nice large MP-50, if not quite a "big" MP-50.

    So do I.

I'd like that. It could underscore Takara's position on the relevance of Diaclone to Masterpiece. At least, those who believe would take it that way. Those who don't would chalk it up to coincidence.

Doubtful, but I would expect Diaclone repaints out of them.

I wouldn't. Also a niche release, and at least Grimlock, there's not a big difference. You get a blue Speedo instead of red. What I probably would do if I were them, though...release the regular release as toon with yellow...then do a toy release with gold chrome and have swappable Speedos.
