I feel like in episodes such as City of Steel and The Master Builders each individual Constructicon had a distinct personality trait. A little more depth than Skywarp and Thundercracker.
It is kinda funny how my mind works though!

I have to say, my interest in G1 MP is seriously fading.

I need some kind of sub-team I know they will work on for awhile to bring my interest back...

Insecticons, Dinobots, Constructions, Reflector, or maybe 86 movie?

I agree on The Master Builders. Long Haul felt underappreciated, Bonecrusher was constantly itching for a fight, Hook was his usual smooth condescending self, Scavenger oddly tried hard to impress Grapple (though he may have just been playing his part too well), Mixmaster was just insane, and Scrapper channeled his inner diplomat. I’d say that episode was as much a spotlight for them as it was for Grapple and Hoist. If they make Hook I really hope he comes with that steel beam he holds while transforming. It’s seared into memory by the season 2 end credits.

The current toon aesthetic would present some challenges in design. Are we desiring something identical to the animation model? If so, Scrapper and Mixmaster will probably present the biggest problems.

I mean, look at that? There aren’t even any defined knees.

Maybe something more like this would be effective.

That’s a very interesting point of view. Maybe it’s because I’m Canadian but GI Joe and He-Man didn’t mean nearly as much as Transformers, Macross and Gatchaman to me as a kid. I was obsessed with the Japanese robot shows and I only had a passing interest and very few toys of G.I. Joe and He-Man. To the point where I find it completely bizarre that adults would collect He-Man stuff in particular. Transformers and Macross I totally get, but He-Man baffles me. :)

I work in Mechanical Design so it may be that I’m more interested in the robots because they’re machines. So it may be just me. I’m way more interested in the engineering of the joints and the transformation in a typical MP figure than the proportions and face sculpts. I see Transformers as alien machines so I couldn’t care less that the arms are too long on MP-10 or if a face sculpt isn’t quite perfect. That may also explain why I’m a Takara Fan Boy. They typically have the most genius transformations and joints which is the most important thing to me as a collector.

Sorry for the long and possibly off topic post! Back on topic, the Constructicons and Decepticon triple changers are way more important to me than the seekers or insecticons. Personally I would be shocked if we didn’t eventually get those characters.

Sam, I’m horrified that you don’t think you could name the individual constructicons! Say it ain’t so! I may have to take your MP Fan Card away!

I kid! I kid! Kind of!

Here Robotech was the only thing that came on at normal viewing hours between 7 and 7:30 am, which made watching it kind of hard during spring break. My mom use to leave for work at about 6:00 and if I was woke I could catch Starblazers after Jimmy Swaggert, but even then they would air it only on Mondays or some nonsense like that.

Haha, take away my G1 fan card, but I’m keeping the MP one ;)
If we get MP Devastator and I still don’t know who’s who, then you revoke my membership :lol

In the Hasui-age, I think Dev would have looked a lot like v2 Constructor, but with the colors all in the correct places. Now, I don't know what they would hypothetically do...I know what they will actually do...they just won't bother. But IF they did him, I don't know how they'd handle it. Making THAT and having it functional and accurate in all modes is pretty much impossible.

To be fair, I used to get Scavenger and Scrapper mixed up. And I still get Slag and Snarl mixed up. Must be all the damn S names... Swoop was always easy to remember. I think I used to mix up Sludge, too...but somewhere along the 3rd Party Dinobots, I got him straightened out.

How can you remember when the shows were on? I have no clue. It think Transformers was on after school for me which was perfect. No clue when Robotech was on. Saturday mornings were huge for me. It was like 6 hours straight of cartoons advertising toys. I have no doubt I was brainwashed so badly it’s why I’m still collecting today.

My son is lukewarm on the G1 Transformers show but we started watching Robotech remastered on Prime last weekend and he loves it.

I think I just came up with a 'keep it straight' saying right here and now...slags are horny! I don't think I'll get them mixed up any more from here on out. Just as long as I remember what slag means in the UK...

Funny, I was always addicted to G1 but had a very difficult time getting into Robotech. Too many humans...lol!

Yeah, I’m a total toon guy but I’m not sure I’d buy something that’s identical to this particular animation model. If TT did something, say, like Constructor but cleaner and more toon styled, I’d buy that. A fair compromise.

The humans I don’t mind. It’s the singing I’m not a fan of!

I think Robotech is appealing to kids because the humans get to pilot these awesome mechs.

Speaking of pilots, I’m very curious to see if Takara bothers packaging dianaughts with the toy versions of MP’s based on Diaclone designs. That would be awesome and might explain why they added magnetic surfaces to Prime’s trailer.

I’d love dianauts. I’d actually prefer them over Spike and co. Isn’t there some speculation that the latter figures have magnets in the heels specifically to interact with Prime’s trailer?

And god yeah Minmae’s (or however you spell it) caterwauling frequently grated on my nerves.

Yes I believe the humans included with Prime V3 have magnets in their feet. I’m just hoping we also get dianauts with plus releases.

    I get that!

I always felt that Transformers are kinda like superheroes, they’re around to protect the humans, but need very little interaction with them because humans are basically unnecessary once you establish that fact. They basically have to either jack the humans up like 90’s-impossibly-awesome-Batman to let the humans participate, or weaken the Transformers.

In fact, they are! Multiple characters had the equivalent of superpowers: Hound’s holograms, Ironhide’s chemicals, Sideswipes piledrivers, Trailbreaker’s force fields, Skywarp’s teleportation, Thundercracker’s sonic boom. Heck, even Rumble/Frenzy’s piledrivers could be considered superpowerful. And most every character has boot shapes and some have...underwear-like shapes. Looking at the newer toon style figures really demonstrates this.

Part of the reason I hated the Bay movies, the Transformers were nothing but props.

Exactly. Bay almost treated Transformers like he was directing a Godzilla movie. “Giant creatures with no personality or characterization? Let’s focus on the humans reacting to them as our main story”

Sorry, I mean the humans being shoe-horned in. Just look at the IDW comics where they were trying to get the human characters in there. Everything had to be based in Cybertronian tech, etc.

That said, you’re completely correct. The lore of the original series of Transformers is 100% based in superheroes. They even use the same rules of colour schemes.
