The thing is, that Takara and Hasbro chose such an specific time to release all these movie figures (MPM and SS), and having already plans to release ROTF figures the next year it's plain simple as it sounds.

It may NOT be an anniversary, but definitely they take recognizition of the events.

ROTF may have been a pretty much garbage film, no doubt, but the franchise was on the top in everything else, the toys, their success, their fine distribution, the COMPLEXITY, it was a thing that we consider now as "beautiful" moments that we want back. (even if somes don't liked the toyline)

At least it was the moment where HasTak did their maximum in toys.

And i may get some flames by what i'm going to say, but the original movie (1986) in its time, leaving aside our love (the fanbase) for it, was not well received and was financial failure for the brand, and it was the time where Hasbro needed to experiment anything to success at least, the live action movies while not iconic as that movie (and not even reaching their quality in plot) definitely helped the brand so much more and put Transformers higher in the map, but that's what i think.

Anniversaries aside, Takara has plenty of chances to release anything the next year, Beast machines, movies, armada, etc, the possibilities are high.

I honestly don't know, being there going for the gloss look I'm guessing Black. If he was charcoal grey it like what's on Inferno and that's pretty much matte. I think for most of us we have interpreted him as black even on the cartoon. I just assumed he was black. Going by how they have interpreted things different from us, a case could be made he's a grayish-blackish color.

What makes anyone think this "has been set in stone"? I'm not seeing any hard evidence one way or another.

From the Sunstreaker thread from an interview with the design team, translated by Emperor Bruticus:

Similar things were said about Bruticus, yet here we are without one.

Well the game's not over yet. Who knows? Maybe in 2-3 years we could all be posting pics of our Hoist/breakers and Bruticuses. Oh happy day!

One small caveat I have with combiners is I want slavish toon recreation, but the combiners were drawn pretty crappy. I'd prefer the Hasui era stylings for those. I've no doubt that Combiners will happen, but lets see what we get.

True, although I believe that in Bruticus's case it was only implied that he was a desire to be done, this case seems to say they are actively working on Trailbreaker/Hoist.

Nnnn, I don't know about that. If it's an exact, correct translation, he's only saying he wants to put the extra effort into Trailbreaker and Hoist to really distinguish between their designs, not that he currently is doing so.

Still, with the Hilux being only one of five remaining Diaclone-era cars, we'd be remiss to believe they aren't at some prototype stage, even if they are stalled somewhere along production.

I'll concede that there maybe some things missing from the interview. But I my reasoning is why would the team even bring it up in the first place? I think that they are definitely on the short list. Of course if the next few years are anything like the first half of 2018 we should see them around 2055 lol.

As long as Trailbreaker's truck is black I'd be fine if the black robot parts were that cartoon dark grey black color

Doesn't sound very different from where Kobayashi mentioned he wanted to do BW Megatron next in the Dinobot interview.

At this point absolutely any new G1 release will be eagerly welcomed.

Well, Optimus Prime v3 doesn't have a concrete release date, so perhaps we could see Trailbreaker and Hoist announced any day. Even to be released this year

The rumour has been set in stone because people are repeating it as fact based on what seems to be an incorrect translation. This is the guy that does the translations from Japanese to English for Hasbro Australia so I assume he knows his stuff:

Cool. I do believe that @Emperor Bruticus IV does use google translate, unless he's learned Japanese in the meantime?

Always said I wanted a better translation of that entire article. @Deruji, any luck?

Yeah I'd love to be able to speak and read Japanese. I ran it through various translation apps, put it together in a logical sentence structure and when I can I get my homegirl from Tokyo, Yoriko to quickly skim through and tell me if it makes sense.

There sure could be some grammatical error that leads to misinterpretation .. Indeed it would be cool if @Deruji could skim through it to see if there's anything out of context.

I honestly see them coming as they are low-hanging fruit engineering and license wise.. could the brand unification have pushed them back?
Maybe Hasbro doesn't see the value in placing orders for boring alt mode, C list characters who they will have to license separately?
I honestly would be surprised if they didn't have grey protos chilling in the lab somewhere :)

I honestly just want Springer, Kup or Mirage next, I'd be kinda pissed to get Optimus and then more bloody trucks.. we need excitement haha.

My guess is it was an intentionally slow year for G1 because they've been clearing the decks for V3 Prime in 2019. I'm hoping we see a flurry of new G1 molds in the year or so following his release.

Gotta think they'd be excited to show off some new carbots with their new crown jewel.

I honestly think we will see a new G1 carbot mold reveal before September.

Isn't Onsake from Japan? Couldn't he translate it?

Whatever the case, I would agree that interview doesn't officially, 100% state TB and Hoist are coming...however, they're a pretty solid bet as it is being mold mates and theoretically not the toughest license...then add the fact the designers are talking about how to differentiate them. I put them miles ahead of Bruticus that was mere wishlist fodder.

I do...and much, much more now than before. Between the slowed G1 output and the increase in price, I don't see it happening. I question if they'd want to release a combiner in pieces...and the price increase would make an already expensive release stupidly expensive. When Ultra Magnus was a $120 figure, I could see them maybe releasing a combiner for about $350...and that being in the ballpark of something they've done before. Now you're looking at more like $500 or more. I just don't think TT would do something that risky. And I don't see them dedicating a year or more to releasing a combiner piecemeal, especially with Beast Wars and Bay Wars fighting for the spotlight.
