Well, if we are indeed right about this possible new sub-line, I'm confident it would be designed to work scale wise with these new Masterpieces. Sort of how like Alternators/Binaltech were more or less "in scale" with the early MP's but released as a different line.

And yeah, for as many characters that could/should still be released as Classics-verse figures, they could more or less in theory cover all the ground they need to in one more year and be done with it. But my guess is that IF this neo-G1 line shows up at all, it'll be an exclusively Japanese based collector series that happens whether or not Classics-verse is still in full swing. Hard to say, though, with next to no info to go on.

I have mixed feelings about that "neo-G1" business (and yeah TransBot, it wasn't so much a "hint" as I already had picked this up from the thread).

It sounds cool (like an official version of the PP series...hmm, Takara seems to get scooped on a lot of ideas lately) but I have bad feelings about it.

    1) Quite possibly these figures will be a poor fit for Generations or its sequel line (for size class or whatever reasons), so they won't make it to the US and other countries. That means import frenzies starting at $50 and up.
    2) The promise of "mini MPs" and "total G1 accuracy" gives way to a reality of a bunch of figures that are only arguably any better than the Classics/Universe/Generations gang. In effect, it will be the "new MP Optimus and Starscream" for a massive swathe of people's collections. This could have a depressing effect on sales. Certainly it would depress ME.
    3) If the line really is considered a new take on all recent Classics characters, this may effectively end the Generations line as we know it, which shied away from revisiting characters for the most part and crossed into crazy territory like Straxus and Black Shadow.
    4) If 3) is true, this may also end any hope of a Soundwave and Shockwave in the Classics aesthetic. While seeing Deluxes/Voyagers of articulated Soundwave and Shockwave in their original goofy altmodes would be heaven in its own way, it would also feel a bit of a missed opportunity. That's assuming they happen at all in favor of new BB, Prowl, Jazz, etc...

I suspect it's all pie in the sky at this point. If anything drives me out of this hobby though, it will be pointless repetition. I am digging the new MPs, but I don't have the older ones and I see where it's annoying. DotM was filled with new molds of movie characters, which is fine, but Jolt and the Twins hardly needed them and the result was a rather wearying onslaught of the familiar. Now Prime BB and Cliffjumper, let alone Optimus, are already getting two molds apiece. Meh.

    About the TT being scooped.

It was mentioned that factories in China tend to share information freely. It went on to elude that if you are seeing it as a 3rd party item it is most liekly some concept that HasTak is working on. Take that for what its worth.

Now say something like the PP line is what this new Neo-G1 line will be. Do we pay the $110 that iGear is asking or sit and wait a few years to see what TT is giving us?

I also take time of ownership into consideration. If I own PP Ironhide for 3 years then Takara pumps one out, I won't feel too burnt because I enjoyed PP Ironhide for 3 years before anything similar to it came out.

I have no clue what is goin on out there with Takara, Hasbro and 3rd parties but I do bask in all the attention Transformers has been getting lately. :)

All valid points, but I think if this neo-G1 line happens, it will predictably only focus on core characters and not be anywhere close in scope as Classics-verse has been. We'll likely just get all the usual suspects ala BB, CJ, Ironhide, Ratchet, etc. but none of the "B grade" level guys. And if they are as screen accurate as Masterpieces are, then it's a non-issue since 95% of all Classics-verse figures have been updated & modernized. Very few look like they walked right out of the G1 show.

What I'm basically saying is that I think there is indeed a niche market for this kind of neo-G1 series that will likely in no way affect the more main line Classics-verse stuff - it'll just be a MUCH smaller cast of characters/figures that ends up disappointing anyone hoping to get every single 1984-86 character in perfect outdated G1 style. If that makes sense :)

    You're right.

Also it's not like this isn't something we TF fans are accustomed to: it's called "having an Optimus Prime figure". You can enjoy it for some time and be sure that they'll release a better (or at least different) one in a couple years, which you'll have to get too. It'd be silly to complain "but I already have an optimus why are they making anotheeeerrrrrrr"

If it is true (where are you TC!) then I can't wait!
This potential line was something that I suggested when we saw pics of MP Huffer a while back, seems great minds think alike!

I wouldn't count on any mini-MPs, per se; maybe something more like Binaltech, Alternity, etc. but with less focus on licensed vehicle modes?

Dam was hoping they would finish classics at least some well deserved characters we don't have. But I'm a sucker for G1 especially G1 Accurate.

Ditto. I really hope it was a hint for what's to come (possibly to take the place of Alternity), as those characters are some of my personal favorites from G1. While the Classics figures pictured are fantastic in their own right, I'd welcome higher-end versions of those guys, especially if they scaled up better with MP-10 :)
If it wasn't a hint, at least the man has good tastes based on what's pictured there :)

hate to beat a dead horse again, but if the mini-mp thing is solidified, it pretty much confirms that the MP line was meant for commanders with this new line possibly taking care of the supporting (smaller character) cast.

think about what he was saying about soundwave too. we kept thinking that it was the ALT MODE holding a G1 accurate soundwave back, but perhaps it's because he is destined for this smaller line instead, which does not yet exist. this makes a lot more sense to me if there's any validity to the rumor.

Classics isn`t over. We heard that Trailbreaker is coming which means Hoist should follow. I would also assume that if they are making one new mould for the line there will be more than one new mould.

I might be able to get behind your reasoning. I would just hate to see Soundwave smaller than leaders. He is the real number 2 man after all.

Though I'm hardly averse to an awesome new Soundwave at any scale...yeah I'd prefer Soundwave to be made comparable to the other MPs rather than smaller like the Autobot cars. Either MP version of Megs (current or forthcoming) or the Seekers shouldn't tower over him.

It was also incidated that whilst MP Ultra Magnus is in development...it is a little while off yet.

At the same time, it's apparent Takara intend to turn out Masterpieces more regularly, perhaps more often.

This leads me back to wondering if they're going to go through a revised Skywarp and Thundercracker sooner than we might have expected.
    See: Pictures marked MP11*A*.

It also has me wondering about this MP5L thing........or was that one debunked?
