I guess it depends on the wedding. The ones that I've gone to have been rather larger, so there was one traditional wedding cake somewhere (with the figures on it), and then moar generic cake to feed the vultures like myself & all my drunk relatives.

Like, I've never heard of specifically having two main cakes (you'd think that would symbolically defeat the purpose of getting married), but I guess it would really depend on the style, and of course what the bride + her mother ultimately want.
