Update 2/26/11: Answer: In case info may ever be useful to someone else. Pegs on Microman weapons/pieces are what look to be 3mm while the pegs for weapons that go into the transformer cassettes are about 5mm.

Update 12/30/11: More Answers: Wanted to post up relevant parts of a convo I had with MicroBry, who provided some very helpful information. Link to post in thread here. Real good people. There's also some relevant tidbits posted in interview here: Fanmode interview: Bryan Wilkinson. Interesting read if you got the time.

Hello there. This might be a stupid question but its something I'm quite curious about.

I realize that some of the Microman toys have slots/holes where you peg their weapons/accessories into, which are normally found on their backs and legs. (images of Microman MicroForce Road Spartan attached showing pegs and weapons) I believe they might be 5mm but not really sure. I also realize that Transformer cassettes also have these same type of holes where you peg their accessories/weapons into. (images also attached) Both toys are in essence Microman/Takara toys which means they could have used same basic peg size format across their toylines. Was wondering if anyone knew, or had both sets of toys in order to test, if both weapons could be swapped interchangeably. Wanted to get a couple of Microman toys for their weapons but before making the commitment to buy wanted to ensure they would indeed fit. Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I know that bandai's zoid Z-builder cubes perfectly fit the minicon port.

lets you customize dudes like cybertron metroplex with missiles and laser guns.

Don't know about the microman toys. Just that some of the ones bbts has on their sonokong reissues are the magnet based ones. Definitely not five millimeter ports.

Grimwing, appreciate the info. That helps. It's good to know what other parts might fit. And yeah my research also found that some of these Microman figures are magnet based but not sure if all of them are. But yeah again that helps, so much appreciated!
Have someone helping me out by making some custom cassettes and was just wondering what other weapons I might be able to scavenge and use, rather than using the same weapons currently available for the rest of the line. That and sometimes simply swapping weapons gives the feel of a whole new toy especially with these cassettes. Since to me it feels as if half (maybe closer to a third) of the toy is the weapons set. Example, Ravage on it's own looks way to plane and 2D. The weapons add depth/area and give that more 3D look.

I happened to be at my storage facility and checked my Micromen figures and I am 95% certain that the pegs for the Microman figures are too small to be used with the TF cassettes. You would need to make the pegs larger on the weapons in order for them to work. I didn't have time to try and find where my TF cassettes are to actually fit them but they looked much too small to work without modifications. Hope this helps.

Seawing, 95% is good enough assurance for me. Helps lots. Thanks for taking the time to check for me.

And thanks to everyone who did respond (and even those who didnt) for taking the time to look over my inquiry. Much appreciated.

mellowmut, if this is the case, you can always add something to the pegs to make them fit a bit more snugly into the holes on the TF cassettes. There are things that can be done for this sort of thing that aren't "permanent" (e.g., things that damage your figures) to create a conversion of sorts. Obviously, with vintage figures, one just needs to be very careful with things

Supersquad7, if that is the case what would be your recommendation for a novice such as myself? Someone who is artistically challenged. If you have a link to a tutorial for this sort of thing I'd appreciate it. And honestly I don't mind if it's permanent change (permanent on weapons side that is). Honestly whichever you recomend more. I throw myself at the mercy of the court.

    SuperSquad7 caught another! :lol

Hmm....I'd think that you may be able to look at some found objects that have caps and just test-fit some things on those parts. I think you'd be surprised at some of the things that go into the trash that can be used on custom work.

If you feel like you don't have the necessary skills, you can always post a requests in the "Requests" forum in Creative Marketplace.

Sounds like a plan. Will try the first. And if that fails resort to 2nd.

And apologies for the name slip. Made that extra effort to toss the 7 at the end when I first wrote it . Was like it's kind of your name and deserves a certain amount of respect. Much like you wouldn't like someone butchering/misspelling your real name.

Glad to help, and I hope that you'll be able to easily and effectively perform your modification.

As for the name slip, no worries at all. I just like joking around when people add an extra 's' accidentally. With that being said, you're obviously not the first to make ol' Quaddy here a Squad :lol

People do that to him all the time... :lol

If the posts are too small for the holes, there are several ways you can get around it. If the posts are just a little loose, you can thicken them up with a few coats of superglue round the outside of the post. If you test fit it when set, you can see how much more you need to add.
If you just want to make temporary adjustments for display purposes, you could most likely fill the extra gap with a little piece of paper or similar, either by wrapping a small strip round the post or just wedging a scrap in at the side of the post to hold it in.

Ramrider, I like that idea about the super glue. Thanks. Think it might resolve an issue on some loose laserbeak weapons for a KO I have.

Wanted to request your assistance in identifying any parts/weapons/accessories that would fit or go with the original Transformer/MicroChange Cassettes. All started with this pic here: Microman MC-01 Claw. Was able to acquire the weapons set that matches the one in the pics. But still looking for anything else that fit nicely onto any of the cassettes hands or into the peg holes. Preferably chrome stuff.

Hm. Well, fitting the hands was something of a lucky coincidence, but I believe there might be other Microman 2003+ accessories that might do the job. I'd have to look into that more. As for the main sockets, they are 5mm on the original trio of cassettes (and variable on the rest--most of them are though), like most classic Microman parts. As such, there's a lot of possibilities out there, but the real question would be what fits the size of the figure itself and the spacing of the sockets best. I'd have to check to see what good candidates are out there. The first that comes to mind are the parts for the Blockman (not terribly rare yet as Robotech "Robo-Links") sets. These were from the same era and there were a variety of 5mm parts that might work well. Also there might be some good bits in Tomy's Zoid Blox (Z-Builders in the US) and in the Multi-Mac series, which is a knock off of Tomy's rarer SciTex line. You might even find some Lego (including Bionicle, etc) bits could have potential as they use 5mm pegs as well, but less likely to find chrome bits there.

Oh I should note that the Road Spartan set didn't really use the 5mm parts, strangely enough (a gripe of mine), but did use the 3mm parts some which are another standard part type in Takara toys for smaller weapons and accessories. Microman 2003+ largely moved away from 5mm parts (a few nice exceptions) other than the sockets on the backs (and even that in the very end) and to the 3mm stuff. I got the impression that the head of product development there wanted to steer the line away from the 5mm heritage, ironically. There is some 5mm stuff in the 1999 line though, although it is mostly focused on the larger Magnemo-11 connectors.

But yeah will be sure let you know what, if anything, I find that works. So far found atleast one of the Insecticon weapons kinda works to fit onto Frenzys arm. The gun handle is kinda in the way. Has the same connector/clip as the claw. Looks like mostly the smaller transformer figs of the same size have hand weapons like that that should likely work.
