I recently added the European Version of G1 Overlord to my collection and I am very impressed with it. This thing is not a big as Fort / Grand / Brave Max, but it's still massive and just as impressive. I wanted to ask other people who own a G1 Overlord... What version do you own and what are your thoughts about it? I also wanted to know what are the differences between the European and Japanese Versions and which one is rarer or more sought after?
I miss mine, but at least I can always look at Peaugh's review to remember what he was like He was very awesome and as much as I'd like to get another one someday, at least he went to a good home.
^Sigh. Mine will only arrive in December! : That being said, IMHO, the Japanese released box looks more impressive to me. Something about the old school grid-lined box feels so right.. Toy is cool in it's own right, because it has tons of playability and not to mention the Character portrayal of Overlord was pretty muc bad-ass. So uhh, yeah!
Ever sinced I learned about Overlord, it was an immediate "Must Have" for me. Luckily, a good friend of mine who goes to Japan on business trips scored me one. Too bad it did nt make it to the U.S. as I suspect he would have gain so much recognition. I mean just look at the amount of play value, features and accessories it comes with. What can I say! I love this figure!! A must have Power Master. As for whaich is worth more, here's a link to a sealed box European ver: Transformers Decepticon Overlord Hasbro'90 MISB - eBay (item 320606127418 end time Oct-30-10 11:12:19 PDT)
I have the European version and he is just full of win! He is currently set up with the big guys in bot mode on my largest shelf. Once I get more room, all of my city Transformers will be set up in a huge set up. Lots of playabilty and awesome looking bot... What's not to like?
Here's some info on the differences between the Japanese and European versions: Exert from Fred's "Transformers Variants": Japanese and European variants; List One Main page: Fred's Complete Transformers Variants and Variations Page! "Overlord, originally thought Japanese-only, actually saw release in europe as well. Surprise! He has colored purple pieces (wings, shoulder cones, all accs) that come in 2 different colors..indigo, and violet. If you remember your ROYGBIV, you KNOW that these are considered two different colors, not just shades of each other!" Oh, but we're not done. Not by a long shot In the words of Morg, "Overlord was released in Japan, Europe, Greece (is that in Europe?) and Australia, basically everywhere except the US, Canada and SA. The version released in Japan has the pink parts while the other versions came with the purple parts, purple parts where never included in the Japanese version. European/Australian/Greek Overlords have a completely different copyright to the Japanese version: E/A/G copyright is Hasbro made in Taiwan whereas the Japanese version is copyright Takara and made in...off the top of my head, China. If you want the exact copyrights I'll look them up. Also, the paint application on the eyes is different: E/A/G Overlords have light red paint which sits firmly within the eye lines, but Japanese Overlords have dark red paint which sits over the eye lines. Hope that makes sense Argus pointed out a while ago that European/A/G Overlords come with 3 or 4 (I forget) pink parts from the Japanese release. This isn't exactly accurate. There are 3 or 4 parts in the European/A/G release which ARE lighter than the other parts but they are not the same colour as the Japanese version. These parts are a shade which is halfway between the 2...confusing eh? Anyway, nitpicking over "
i have the jpn version but i actually prefer the euro packaging. its shit i can actually read plus, its got more unique back of the box art. brb with picspam.
Mine is in its cardboard prison, its case fresh, actually the best box I have ever seen. I haven't been able to get up the nerve to open it. I need to get a loose one some day.
From what I've seen, the European version comes around less often, but the Japanese one usually sells for more.
Interesting, eBay completed listings are practically all Japanese: http://completed.shop.ebay.com/i.ht...SALE_CURRENCY=0&_sop=10&_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_rdc=1
I personally think the purple suits the overall scheme better, but whichever version you get, it doesn't matter - the toy is pure distilled awesome! One of the best giant G1 Transformers out there. He doesn't feel as cumbersome as Metroplex or Scorponok, and manages to have a very humanoid feel to him. I'd love to have a Voyager sized modern revision of Overlord, or something along the lines of Payton's one. That thing is badass!
