I figure it's from the Masterforce/Victory/Zone series, but I'm unfamiliar with most of those characters. Anybody know who this guy is?
Not a Transformer. There were a couple of those guys that showed up at TRU and maybe other places a number of years ago. They're not KOs of anything in particular, they just share stylistic elements of certain Transformers and Gundams and various other Japanese Super Robots.
It's actually not a Transformer at all - it's the Black Ox from the anime Tetsujin 28 FX, a 90s update / sequel to the original 60s robot anime released in the US as Gigantor. Got a KO of that one myself, it's a kind of cool design, though closer in spirit to a Gundam or a Brave than a Transformer. Ack, ninja'd by QuinJester.
Oh, hey, it is a KO of something. Didn't look at it closely enough, though it was one of the other generic pseudo-Gundam KO robots.
Info and reviews on the Black Ox FX are hard to come by. How's the quality on the bootleg? Considering the ludicrous prices the original go for, I wouldn't mind picking one up if it's anything better than awful
This one looks exactly like mine, which I bought years ago. The plastic quality is fantastic, but it has the usual issues of flash, and things not fitting 100% perfectly. Still totally worth getting for around $10 or so.
Are you refering to the ones with the giant t-rex/bird head of their shoulders? I kept finding them in Hong Kong and thinking its Black Ox FX until I took a closer look at them.
The price sticker looks like Tuesday Morning. I too would be curious about the quality, and also the poseability. Looks neat enough that I might not mind owning one even if I don't care about the series.
Oh it's a brick, but it's a nice brick. The head and arms are the only things that move. It still looks awesome, though
