I went through some pics on my harddrive and found one of a TRU in the mid 80s and a shelf full of GI Joe. Thought it would be cool if anyone had anything like that. Guess I was reminiscing about seeing G1 on the shelves.

Yes indeed and I wish I had taken pictures in the 80's. It was epic. Even Fortress Maxiumus was on the shelves of TRU.

Without wishing to partially derail, as I appreciate this thread is intended for pics, I just wanted to share my memories as an 8 year old walking round toy shops where I grew up just disbelieving at the floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall Transformers they had in stock.

Back in the day there were only a handful of TRUs in the UK so I only got to visit one about once a year but there were loads of local toy shops, all overflowing with TFs. To see that many MISB/MOSC G1s all in one place was a marvel to behold, even back then when they were so common.

Oh please let someone have photos!

When I finally get my flux capacitor functional my first stop is Toys R Us circa 1985 for just this reason. I still have the fleeting visions in my head of all those beautiful minty red and purple boxes lining up and down the isles and on pegs, without ebay jacked prices or scalpers leaving you with just WFC Bumblebee.

Wollstone, that picture is still epic. I still remember the first time I saw a Fort Max on a Toys R Us shelf. It was Awesome, I mean Breathtaking. Despite the incredible updates, the toys from the 80's were the best!

Something tells me this thread might make me wish I could step into photos like they did in Red Dwarf.

My area didn't get TRU until about 1988 I think. There was a fantastic local store called Toy World (later Mac's Toy World) where I bought most of my G1s. Also occasionally shopped at Hills department store and Children's Palace. All of these stores are long gone unfortunately.

yeah i remember in the 80's all the great toys on the aisles, but i was to stupid to pop out my cell phone or digital camera and take pics, and i didnt feel like lugging around a huge traditional film camera. this thread is going to be interesting, to see who actually lugged around a camera then and was allowed to take pics.

toy world was a big one, didnt that have a giant boy out front or part of the store display? kind of like the big boy icon? i seem to remember even going there in the early 90's and still seeing G1 on the shelves. I remember noticing the difference between g1 and g2 on the packaging even if i was too little to understand why. its really a shame all we have anymore is toysrus for brick and mortar stores actually "devoted" to kids.

I loved going into my local Zodiac back in the 80s. TFs stocked floor to ceiling and very narrow aisles. It was like being in a snug Transformers toy cave of wonder. :)

Those two pictures are great. That's just how I remember them with the tall walls and long aisles. You could get lost in there.

I remember when video games started taking off how they'd have the game slips in the video game aisle that you have to take to the register; then after you paid you'd take your golden ticket and wait for the dude from the back to be paged to come and get your shiny new game.

Back in the day... yeah it seemed like there were so many toylines of note, and the toy aisles went on forever.

I think that may be a combination of nostalgia and anticipation. Now, most of us can just walk into a toy shop, pick up what we want, pay and leave.

Before, we had to be patient.

I couldn't remember the name of the chain, but you jigged my memory.

Ahhhhhhhh all these pictures remind of a better time.A time when stores took pride in their toy departments and cared what they looked like. Not they way alot of places look now where there are things thrown everywhere and the place looks like a tornado hit it.
