I just tried to log onto Freds variations page, and its not there!!
Its been a few weeks (I think) since I was on there last, but now its gone. I tried a search for it and got back results for different pages within his site.

Does anyone know where this site went? This was one of my favorite TF sites, and I'm kinda sad at the thought that it might be gone. Anyone have any info on this?

I've never heard of it, but now I want to see it.

Well a while ago most of his pictures got dumped. Total bummer as I use it all the time. From time to time the site goes down due to many people getting on there. Give it a few days and if it is still not up I will contact him.

I was looking for a mirror to his webpage too. It is down because geocities went off-service a few days ago :/

Yep, probably the most important TF page in my bookmark collection.

Unfortunately it was a Geocities website which terminated their webhosting service 10/26. As of the 25th they've had intermittent availability for all their Geocities pages, but now it looks like everything is gone.

I messaged Fred through eBay a couple days ago about him rehosting it but no response yet. I backed up a copy of his entire site (or at least most of it) yesterday for my own uses. I'd be willing to host it with his permission.

For now at least, you can find some older versions of the site on archive.org: Internet Archive Wayback Machine

I also backed up (most of) the site. Give me a few hours to create a massive zip archive and I'll upload it to Rapidshare or something. :)

Sweet, I had most of the pics but my harddrive crashed and I (like a dumb Arsh) did not back it up. I would love to get some of those pics. Most of my pics are in the convention section.;)
    thanks man

Bad news indeed, I seem to post a link to Fred's at least once a week. I've used it constantly from before I'd found here. :(

Fantastic if some of you have had the foresight to back it up.

If you were backing it up Sunday and/or Monday, we were probably directly fighting for his site's limited bandwidth causing all that down time. :D

    Hey everyone,
I'm not trying to step on any toes, just trying to be helpful! While I haven't discussed the topic of the Geocities shutdown with him in a while, I've fired off an email to Fred this evening regarding this thread! I let him know about those of you who managed to grab some info from the website and RoboticPlanet's offer.

I don't know what info he might need (if he needs anything at all!), but thought I'd find a way to help if I can... I was curious to know what info/data you all might've acquired from the Geocities site before its shutdown...

Also, if there's something in the works, I'll be sure to pass that along as well!
    Sincerely,
    Methusalen

I didn't back up my own GeoCities page. Thought I had more time left. *sighs* :(

Unlikely. I started backing it up several weeks ago. I was just redownloading a lot of the image files to make sure I got them all. :)

Every major page that I could find on the site itself, additional links to other relevant sites, and over two and a half thousand image files. I just created a zip file that's about 109 MB in size. It should be uploaded within an hour. :)

Took a little longer than expected, but here it is:

RapidShare: Fred's Workshop - Transformers Variants (WinZip)

Warning for potential downloaders: Here're the statistics:

    Archiving program used: WinZip 11.1
    Number of pages saved: 177
    Number of images saved: 2750
Total number of files in ZIP archive: 7949
Size of ZIP archive: 115150 KB (109 MB)

I don't know if this is complete, but between RoboticPlanet and I, I'm hoping we have everything. Also, please note that the links are all broken (by that I mean you can't just extract everything into a folder and have a fully functional offline version of the site at your disposal), but at least Fred's Workshop isn't gone forever. :)

EDIT: Patobot mentioned he had issues opening this file with WinZip, so I've reuploaded it as a WinRAR file. As much as I like being helpful, doing stuff like this is time-consuming and eats up bandwidth, so PLEASE make an effort to update your archiving programs, install new ones, or experiment before giving up. To minimize future problems and incompatibilities, I've included the type and version of program used to zip the files for the above and below links so downloaders can figure out what's best for them.

RapidShare: Fred's Workshop - Transformers Variants (WinRAR)

Warning for potential downloaders: Here're the statistics:

    Archiving program used: WinRAR 3.71
    Number of pages saved: 177
    Number of images saved: 2750
Total number of files in RAR archive: 7403
Size of RAR archive: 114251 KB (108 MB)

Yeah, I have WinZip 11.1, which has caused me problems on occasion. I suggest using WinRAR like you did. :redface2:

I don't know if it is my version of winrar (3.70), but I got tons of errors when extracting and only the .jpg files are there.
