What would you want to see in the new Prime?

a lot like tiller said, i want to see a modern prime cab+trailer with a completely different transformation. gimmicks and whatnot take it or leave it, but a prime that reboots the whole concept without making him a fire engine/munky would be super cool. this is one of the reasons i liked 07 leader prime so much, he was the same big chunky lorrybot we all know and love but different.

for me at least, ROTF leader prime hasn't not the same 'geewun heritage' feel about him. i'd also shit my pants with joy if they did a new ultramagnus, which isn't impossible given how popular the city commander stuff was.

My favourite recent Prime toy is ROTF, but Animated Prime also has some cool design aspects about him, especially the Cybertronian Mode version, so I'd probably want something like that but with six wheels, a futuristic cabover truck. I'd prefer a medium-large sized Prime, Voyager or Leader preferably, but knowing Hasbro, dozens of size classes will be made of him. An Energon Axe would be a cool addition, but I'd like it handheld, not something that pops out of or replaces the hand, It's should be more like Animated Prime's axe.

The new Prime can take a few hints form Animated Prime, the past G1 Primes, and possibly movie Prime. Minimal to no inspration from the UT Primes except Cybertron.

A Prime superior to both MP and ROTF Prime.

This is an opinion that probably nobody else shares but...



Why does there have to be a new Optimus Prime?

I know that "Optimus Prime is transformers", but didn't universe 2.0 do well enough without a new OP, let alone any OP at all?

I mean how many have there been over the years? Why can't universe have other bot/con leaders? After all there will certainly be an OP in the main line...

Why not a new...Rodimus Prime? Galvatron? Ultra Magnus? Overlord? Star Saber? Thunderwing? Fort Max? Scorponok? Shockwave?....?

He's never had a toy. That needs to be remedied.

I am actually devoid of Primes right now, but am thinking of picking up Classics Voyager and RotF Leader.

As for what I'd like to see in a new Prime...presuming those two well-liked figures aren't going to be drastically improved upon, I'd like to see:

1) a Movie Prime Voyager Class that doesn't suck,
2) a Classics/Universe alternate Prime, in the same vein as a Powermaster (he doesn't need to actually have a little guy become his engine IMO, but having a trailer --> battle armor gimmick would be freaking sweet).

Hummm..... A new Prime you say?

Well, going off some of the ideas that have made it into past comics, but never made it into toy form, I would really love to see a toy made of the Optimus Prime Hiss tank from the G.I. Joe crossover by Devil's Due. I think that think looked sweet! And as someone else mentioned, the 1930's era Optimus Prime from the same company looked pretty cool, so I think a toy of that Prime would rock as well.

Also, as previously mentioned, the World War I designed used in Dreamwave's Joe crossover was really sweet, and is another design that really deserves a toy. Here's a couple scans from the comic for a visual:





Along those lines, this Prime never made it into any comics, but it's a pretty sweet design based off the G.I. Joe Rolling Thunder vehicle, and I think it would make a good Optimus Prime:



Another interesting take would be Optimus Prime with a beast mode. And no, I don't mean Optimus Pimal, I mean Optimus Prime. Something besides a monkey, or a mammoth, or a white lion. Maybe something like the dino-mode Optimus hinted at in the beginning of Hearts of Steel (I think one of the writers or artists once said it was a brachiosaurus?).

The idea of Optimus with some kind of jet mode that was posted a ways back sounds interesting. Done properly, I think that could probably look really cool, so I'd be open to seeing something like that.

I think what's more likely though, is that the next TF series is going to be some kind of animated take on the live-action movie-verse. Now I'll probably get stoned by the masses for saying this, but I think if they took the movie-verse designs, cleaned them up a bit, removed all of the extreme, minute details, and made them look a little more like the TF:Animated designs, well, I think that would look pretty sweet. In my minds eye, the designs would look more smoothed down and slick, like the Animated designs, while still retaining some of the movie design cues. I know this probably seems like a contradiction of terms to many people, but I think it would work pretty well. Anyway, just my two cents.
