I just read this in another thread, and it's so obvious it was meant to be this way once you see the detailing on the underside of the tail. Amazing!

If you rotate the arms and peg them as in the picture above, the side fins can act as landing pads. It actually balances perfectly on a flat surface without any of the bottom copter touching.

The other purpose is to allow the copter twins to be used as legs without their side fins interfering and hitting each other in combined mode.

Nucleon can actually stand on top of Galvatron's cannon in cannon mode by friction alone. The grey part at the top of the cannon that meets the robot torso has some slight depth which means nucleon's feet can kinda wedge on top of it.

the inside/underside detail of the tail matches up exactly to the claw pattern. The two middle claws have a little divot and the outside ones go through the holes. It definitely was designed and not an 'accident'.

For some reason, it makes me think of the scene in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, where the interior of Vader's face plate is shown prior to being placed on Anakin's face.

Holy shit. I just tried this with my second Skullcruncher and you are right. It fits too perfectly. It had to be designed this way.

I don't see it. Sure, mine fits in, but tap the figure and it falls off. Takes me a few tries to get it on because the weight of the tail-gun causes the white crocodile-claw part to fall off. I doubt that they'd redesign what was originally a sword into a gun and then have it sit on top of its arm as a shield(?) - though weirder things have happened. But it's neat that it just happens to fit.

Mines the same way, just sorta loosely hangs there by friction.

Not sure if it's been said or not before, and I'm not digging and searching. Generations Arcee has a peg hole for those Stands from MP Tracks on the bottom of her pack in bot mode. I messed with her a while back, but put her away, last night I pulled her back out for display and noticed it.

It was around that time, perhaps a little earlier, that they started incorporating them into the figures. AOE figures had them in early 2014.

Some of the current Voyagers, both Combiner Wars and Titans Return do not have them, but TR Alpha Trion does.

many recent deluxe/warrior and voyager class figures have such a port.
and it's a fairly standard size for action figure stands., it also fits figma stands.

    edit:
TFXProtector: sentinel prime/astrotrain has one too.
but because of how they transform it's useless, as it's "split" so there's not enough friction.

Oh, that's right. I hadn't thought about that mold. Astrotrain is even worse. Three uses of the mold and it feels like there's mold degradation, already.

Sad. They look so good, too.

Galvatron has one, but it's not very useful in "jet" mode. The square hole on his back can fit some gunpla flightstand pegs though so I imagine there are other flight stands it's made to accomodate.
