Can't see how that would be the case. Barricade's head isn't spring-loaded or anything, and there's slots in the neck that fit the hood parts perfectly, so...

G1 Octane has some hidden features that were probably dropped very late in the design process.

When transforming the toy into truck mode, you slide the upper torso section forward so that the cab section is in level with the rest of the truck. There seems to have been plans on doing the exact same thing for the lower and middle torso sections too! If you wiggle the legs and the torso a bit, it feels a bit like a joint, that you just can't figure how to get to move, if you know what I mean. I think the idea was that the pelvic/leg section should slide forward in robot mode to give the figure better proportions. As the figure looks now, the chest really sticks out, doesn't it? I think that design was abandoned since it would make the figure pretty back heavy, or to be more precis; the rounded heels aren't very stable. So, the entire slide "mechanism" is still in there; they just added two small "walls" inside the slide trench to keep the pieces in place. They can be easily removed without ruining the look of the figure.

Here's the funny part: If you look at the original Octane packaging, the toy they used for the photo shoot appears to be able to do the same thing, so I'm guessing that it was done very late in the design progress -- which also explains the "stops" instead of a completely modified and stable connection there.

Also, the two pegs on the sides of the arms are for using the extra tanker truck cover as a shield :)

There are also two pegholes on the underside of each wingtip. Any guesses as to what they're for? Did he originally come with two guns or missiles that were supposed to go there?

And why does he have a big chunk of metal inside the leg section? :)

And then we have G1 Hot Rod: His legs were designed to extend a bit further, adding molded knees and making him slightly taller than the version we got in stores. Another easy mod to fix that if anyone wants pics.

true and false to some degree. The hard points for the legos have female clip on hands and the weapons are male clip parts. The normal lego figures are holding 3mm diameter weapons. This is also true of the hardhead custom head duros.

Most transformers hardpoints are female clip part weapons and male hardpoints. Although you it is compatible with legos, you can't really interchage the systems since they are essentially reversed.

    Huh?

Yeah, you can't stick a Lego shovel to a Transformer by just sticking it to a handrail, by why would you want to?

Instead, build some ridiculously oversized weapon out of Lego, with a clip hanging off it somewhere, and attach that to your TF. Much more fun. Or, as mentioned earlier, get an army of Lego zombies and plaster them all over Recon Ironhide, for cute zombie apocalypse re-enactments.

Also, your definition of male/female ports is kinda off. The clip system cannot be designated in this manner. Male/female is specifically "peg goes in hole" (three guesses as to why, and the first two don't count), not broadly "object goes into receiver".

I didn't say all. Minifigures can attach to some degree, a bit loose though. I use Tomahawk and Seaspray primarily.

I find the Halo Megabloks figures' pegs/clips are much better fit to the new 3mm peg system.

Plus the figures are excellent and make great little people for scale with TFs.

its not really a hidden feature, but most animated toys look insanely awesome riding grimlock, and because of same size hand pegholes most of the figures can also hold megatron swords.

Sadly, I never knew BM Tankor had a panel that opened on the back of the turret to allow for light-piping. Playing around with it one day, and the panel opened.

Also, Legends Ravage's cannons are 3mm hard-points. Mine's on the shelf with Jazz's speakers attached to them.

I did not know that. I noticed the hinge in his cannon, but couldn't for the life of me figure how it was supposed to open. And I'm pretty sure that's not mentioned in his instructions.
[EDIT]Turns out I was wrong - it is in his instructions, at step 10. It's not overly clear what's happening in the picture, though, so not surprising it got missed.

That's pretty cool; I didn't notice how close the two parts are to separating. Particularly in the case of Lockdown, the "morphing" weapon arm gives the mould a kind of Trap Jaw feel. :D

I don't have a camera to show anybody, so if anyone who does this little trick has one, you can post pics...

Anyway, I just got BIS hotrod, and was playing around with my Fansproject Sidearm guy and realized that he can be stored PERFECTLY in the same storage space as his regular gun ( you can't store both)

you place it in so that the gun barrels are pointing forward, and the hands are in the back. hotrod has 2 little grooves molded into his legs that allow for the targetmasters "crossbow" connectors to fit perfectly in that spot. even the little space at the very back on hotrod allows for the 5mm peg handle to sit in perfectly.

Almost like they had this in mind as an option when FP designed sidearm
