Prior to TF1, having Prime and Megatron at multiple size classes was rare (Armada bendy Prime comes to mind, but there weren't a ton of others).
Someone was smart enough to realize that having key characters at multiple price points would sell like mad. The trend continued in TFA and ROTF. I'd assume it will be the norm going forward.
Screwing up? Hardly. Quote: |

ams: Well, I also have the G1 originals, and since the reissues are made by Takara, they're official... and sometimes significantly improved.
seth: Don't you feel like it takes away from the authenticity of your collection?
ams: Dude, you own three different unlicensed City Commander toys and a half dozen fake third-party Prime trailers. WTH? | |

Screwing up? Hardly. | It was first widespread with Cybertron, with the original Legends figs (aside from Sunstorm). The earliest ones that spring to mind were RiD X-Brawn and Scourge. Quote:

I disagree, most of those Prime's like the Cyber-Slammers and Activators are made for the younger kids so those hardly count. Second it's Prime, it's only natural to make a couple of different versions of one of the most popular and enduring figures in the Transformers franchise.
Besides the only truly awful Prime figure there is that Roll out and Command one, though again its made for a more younger audience.
If you ask me Lockdown's the character that has to many toys, not sure why Hasbro is pushing him so much but they are. |

They didn't screw up. It's only logical to make what people want and sell it. XBL GT: SPLITTLIP Quote:
