were there always deluxe, voyager, leader etc. from the beginning of tf?

side question: on tf1 dvd commentary, michael said he went to tf school @ hasbro to learn about transformers, does that really exist?

The size classes started with Beast Wars I believe. Then they were Basic, Deluxe, Mega, Ultra and Super.

If there was a TF "school" it could be a tour some sort.

G1 sort of had size classes, but it was mostly just similar sized figurines that were packed in the same cases to stores. You can draw many lines though: Mini vehicles (Legends), Autobot cars, Decepticon planes and Triple Changers (Deluxe), Leaders (Voyagers now, lol) and Bases (Supreme).

Also, there were the size classes for Pretenders that inspired the names of later size classes like. They were Mega and Ultra.

I think it was the Classics line (essentially Universe 1.0, but it was just called Classics at the start I think) brought in the Scout, Deluxe, Voyager etc......I think.

I'm sure I read in Toyfare, an article where Hasbro were releasing toys under these classes and it was just before the release of the first classics.

At first, I didn't really like the size class thing, but I really like it now, it just helps when taking into account things like the quality of a toy, the price and comparing it to other toys.

It was actually Cybertron that Voyager and Scout first came to be...Energon still used Mega and Basic.

    No but close, and...

    Absolutely not.

Cybertron is where our current classes came from, but the sizes themselves have existed since Energon. Armada was close, but has Mini-Cons in place of Basics/Scouts and of course ALL the names were unique to the line aside from Supreme.

Nevertheless, all the size classes have their origins in Beast Wars. Basics and especially Deluxes have remained almost identical from their start in BW all the way down to the ROTF toyline. The Mega class was a $15 price point that ceased to exist by Armada, and the Ultras were $20, the equivalent price of our current Voyagers.
