to have two of the same energon characters to superlink together,
like ironhide and ironhide, or hot shot with hot shot 
Who else would kick a guy for eating icecream?

But yeah totally possible. You can even connect the bigger figures like ironhide and jetfire to the smaller ones like hotshot and rodimus.
And yeah, towline looks cool as a shirt. Rodimus/checkpoint and inferno/roadblock look good as pants.
