A few years back, when Classics debuted, I didn't have the money to start collecting TFs again. I'd made a few purchases over the years, mainly stuff like MP Prime and the Transformers movie figures.

But I've always wanted to get the Classics line, and also wanted to wait until more figures were released to get started.

The problem is, I waited too long, and other things too priority.

I'm going to begin selling off my extensive action figure collection (primarily superheroes) and I want to put some of that money towards the Classics and Universe lines.

But here's what I'm wondering: is it worth it? The early releases are pricey, and I've already lost out on eBay on Classics Prime, who I wanted to start collecting with (my first TF in 84 at the age of 6 was Optimus Prime)

Do you guys think they'll re-release the Classics stuff under the Universe banner? Or do you have any suggestions as to where I can find Classics cheap?

I got a classics prime for 31 plus shipping. only a 10 buck markup. and I've seen mirage and bumblebee going for 20. Not that expensive.

no I dont think we'll get repackages of the original Classics figures unless there repaints. and as far as cheap goes you should be able to get them for pretty cheap here in the Junkion forums theres always good stuff to be had there

I don't know if they'll re-release Classics 1.0 figures, but there have been repaints, and you can look for them from the henkei line.

    The ones worth getting in my own, honest opinion are;

Deluxe Cliffjumper - Henkei or Hasbro
Deluxe Bumblebee - Henkei or Hasbro
Deluse Rodimus (Hot Rod) - Henkei or Hasbro
Deluse Mirage - Henkei or Hasbro
Deluxe Astrotrain - Henkei or Hasbro
Deluse Ramjet - Henkei or Hasbro
    Deluxe Skywarp - Hasbro

Maybe: Deluxe Grimlock - Henkei or Hasbro

Voyager Optimus Prime - Henkei or Hasbro
    Voyager Ultra Magnus - Hasbro
Voyager Jetfire - Henkei or Hasbro
Voyager Megatron - Henkei or Hasbro

    Universe Classics 2.0

Deluxe Starscream - or Henkei version
Deluse Cyclonus - Henkei is lighter, Hasbro is like the G1 color of purple
Deluxe Sunstreaker - Henkei or Hasbro
Deluxe Sideswipe - Henkei or Hasbro
Deluxe Silverstreak - Henkei or Hasbro
Deluse Smokescreen - Henkei or Hasbro
Deluse Hound - Henkei or Hasbro
    Deluxe Acid Storm - Hasbro

Voyager Inferno - Henkei or Hasbro
Voyager Nemesis Prime - SDCC 2008 Exclusive

Ultra Onslaught - Henkei or Hasbro
Ultra Powerglide - Henkei or Hasbro

    Maybe Ultra Silverbolt - Hasbro

The difference between Henkei and Hasbro (aside from costing more) are paint apps usually. You make like one over the other depending on the figure. There are more good figures that I have missed. I'm sure others will make their own list of goodies and they'll be in theirs. :)

Are you preferring to buy Hasbro's Classics only? Because there are the Henkei versions of each figure still readily available on many sites, for the 1.0 and 2.0 runs.

If you like Transformers, I'd say they're definetly worth it. Most are very posable, the transformations are complex without being a pain in the ass, and there aren't many figures that people complain about (Galvatron, Grimlock, the Ironhide/Ratchet mold have garnered various levels of criticism, but many still defend them and many buy them in spite of the complaints).

I don't know if you already have a checklist of figures you'd like to get from the Classics line, but the Prime molds, Cyclonus, Inferno, the Seeker/Conehead molds, Hot Rod/Wildrider, the Prowl/Bluestreak/Smokescreen and Sideswipe/Sunstreaker/Red Alert molds are ones I've really enjoyed. Plus you have the Shadow Commander armor (and City Commander armor, if you want to shell out money for that for a Magnus figure) as a really cool supplementary set that makes a neat figure even better. However, to each their own, but I'm sure you'll find plenty of figures you'll enjoy when/if you begin picking up Classics toys.

    My answer is yes.

I'm sorry to hear that you missed the first release. I managed to get all of em except Cliffjumper in the first run, but I shudder to think of what I spent in gas money. My girlfriend got me Jetfire at just over TWICE his retail price, when he was still in stores... but hard to find.

When they came out, they were generally hailed as the best versions of the characters we've ever seen (not everyone thinks so, but a lot of people do). I'm inclined to agree. There's a few weak toys (Grimlock is weird as a remake), but even so, they're all really good.

I doubt they'll get re-releases, just maybe some repaints.

    Thanks for the feedback, guys.

I've posted a thread with a list of stuff I have available for trade/sell in the Junkion forum. I've also begun to hunt down some good prices on Optimus Prime, and have found a few good deals.

To answer some of the above questions, I am interested in getting all of the Classics first, and then moving to Universe. Of course, this won't likely happen in quite that way. My overarching goal is to get every G1 inspired Classics/Universe TF, and then see if anything outside of those appeal to me.

I would get the universe ones that are still on the shelves or you'll be paying a markup for those later.

I agree. If you're trying to get all the Classics and Universe 2.0 figures. I would do so soon, because they've started to clearance them at Target for whatever reason. Probably to make room for ROTF figures. I'm still lookin for Sideswipe and Iron Hide... otherwise I'd be caught up with the line.
