Honestly, I could care less. I love G1, but since I grew up in more modern times, I like the newer stuff.

I really don't care all that much for G1 homages, but I'll admit my opinion of a toy might improve if there are some good homages. I think the only reason I did get Movie Mudflap (Cybertron repaint, not the orange hilbilly) was so he could be my Universe Erector stand-in...

But otherwise I honestly don't care. Take for instance on of my favorite TF's: Alt. Battle Ravage. He's only a Black Alt. Tracks repaint with a new head like Ravage's, but he's just such a different take on the Character I find him awesome.

I buy for new designs and engineering. I don't dislike G1 homage, but it's not like I have a choice since pretty much every single figure has a design reference to G1. Which is not a bad thing, it's just not the reason I buy them. There are exceptions, like the Universe Lambo Bros. I bought. I mostly go for Animated because of it's creative new designs and sleek style or movie for pretty much the same thing, only the details are much greater in the latter. (though one of the reasons I love Animated's style is because it's so clean)

If Hasbro/Takara would make more BW inspired stuff, I'd be all over that, too. (though I never did get all the Tele BW guys I wanted :( )

You know, if you seperate Jazz's legs (G1 Jazz) it locks them in place so they are incapable of moving. Hence, he stands, and has the bonus of looking like he has two legs.

Like most, I'm fine with a mix of both new stuff and homages to years gone past.

I would like to see the next series have a bit more of the "new" though.

If it looks good to me I'll buy it no matter what it is. But a well done G1 (or whatever) homage does give me a warm fuzzy and would probably edge over something else if I had to choose between that and an all-new original design. Unless that new thing was amazingly cool.

These days I go mainly for G1 homages, whether I had the original as a kid or not. I have enough from the other lines that I picked when it came out. A big part of it has to do with space now, which is why I skipped most of the movie and animated lines. Its also competing with the Anniversary Joe line for my time and money, so I cut back to mainly G1 themed TFs.

What I really love about things getting expanded out into the Universe line is figures like Hot Shot can get a new sculpt that really brings the figure into the current era. Lots of good characters outside of G1 have some figures showing their age so it's really exciting that they could get better figures somewhere down the road.

Of course there are still plenty of G1 holes that need to be plugged up since a lot of great characters still don't have at least a deluxe sized figure of them.

Personally i have no intrest in anything that isn't classics g1 based. Thats all i collect now, and i really hope when the classics line comes back they don't do any non-g1 stuff, cause i couldn't care less abpout it. I hate cybertron/armada/energon....

The only thing i have a soft spot for that isn't g1 is beast wars.

and i liked RID stuff as well when i came out, but it had more to do with us not getting vehicle formers in forever.

I despise the look of movie figures, while i think the animated figures are nice, i really don't like animated look either.

I may definatley be addicted to the G1 series, I don't look for a homage when buying new. I can appreciate new designs, even if I do only own two tf's that are not G1, but I wasn't thinking of G1 when I got them.

homages are nice, but an awesome original toy, like the new molds for OP, Starscream, and Sideswipe in ROTF, are very refreshing to see.
    definitely buying those three.

I love G1, and by extension I love the Classics/Universe line because most figures are updates or homages to the G1 figures in a style that I appreciate. However there are a few figures outside of G1 or the Classics/Universe lines that get my attention like: Energon Shockblast, Movie Fracture, Movie Big Daddy, Animated Blurr and Movie Getaway. And so far Movie Bludgeon and Whirl are high on my list. But, again there are pretty good homages to G1 characters that peak "my" interest.

    G1 or bust.

With the Universe/Classics line, I only go for the G1 figs and avoid the rest. It doesn't really matter if Hasbro makes Beast Wars inspired figs or repaint Energon/Cybertron figs, I'll just avoid them.

I'm hopeful that Classics 3.0 will bring some nice G1 updates, such as Wheeljack, Jazz, and Shockwave. ;)

I'm fine with both but I'm really something of a hypocrite. Classicverse is my favorite TF toyline(s) because it's what I've wanted since I got back into collecting with Rid- The old G1 characters updated with modern engineering. But when it comes to cartoons and a mainline, I'm really tired of the same old recycled characters/ homages and want something new. I think thats why I haven;t been able to get into Animated...for all accopunts and purposes its just G1 with a few tweaks here and there.

I like both things, anyway if a new character is repainted into a G1 homage, is better for me.

With Transformers collecting and the mythos as I see it.
Everything revolves around g1. You can't avoid it.

Let me give you a counter example with super mario bros.
Everyone has played super mario bros. But ultimately all Nintendo can do is homage the original when they want to make something new. (with transformers: optimus prime, the war on cybertron, megatron, and etc.) Because without the familiar aspects there is a disconnect in the fan base to recognize it as a update for a nostalgic work.

Which is why you still have question mark bricks and goombas.

This is mostly me too. I've basically had my "fill" of Transformer lines from G1 through Cybertron, and they take up plenty of space. So now, the only stuff I really buy are "upgrades" that add modern engineering and articulation to the classic G1 guys who lacked that.
