I recently acquired a prototype of the Botcon 2008 Optimus Prime (it is not here yet, but I'm so excited waiting for it that I wanted to post). It looks to be a final shot piece, with the exception of the "silver-wash" paint app to the upper legs. Here are some pics. Enjoy!

One other thing, are any other Botcon prototypes known to exist? This is the first and only one I have ever encountered.

Sorry to steal your thunder. but I grabbed one before you. On Dec 26th. here is my thread.

    http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/trans...my-first-test-shot-shattered-glass-prime.html

Im curious how much you paid. I paid only $36 canadian. Also check your prime stack/guns. All Classics prime stacks have color matching hinges:

    OP - Red
    UM - White
    Nemesis - black
    SG OP - Purple
Crystal - clear (im not sure about this as I dont have mine yet)

but my SG OP testshot doesnt have a purple hinge but a plain red hinge.

actually the testshot SG OP has the silver damage/wash it is just a LOT more subdued.

Another unique thing is the windows. look carefully. the windows are opaque. if you go look at a production SG OP, like in the Seibertron.com galleries, the windows are transparent. they are still tinted but the testshot has WAY too much that it seems like paint than tint.

here is another thread with a pic of my testshot.

I gave $117 shipped, which is a good deal even for a regular SG Prime. Mine has both panels on the legs (saw where your test shot is missing one for some reason). I will check the hinges when it gets here, but I believe it will be the same as a regular SG Prime. Everything seems the same as the regular release except for the leg wash, windows, and the NOT FOR SALE stamped on the front. I wonder how many of these exist?

If you read the thread, the guy told me it was "damaged" They wouldnt sell it to me at first. but when i went back they sold it to me after he pointed out the "damage" and I said "that is ok I still want it" And sold it for $40. at the time I didnt know it was a test shot. I was still on the plastic crack high that i got SG Prime for $40 with 10% off so it was $36. Anyway if you check this pic:

I had my original classics prime donate a leg panel. (the version that I like the least out of all of my classic prime repaints) I figure, I have Henkei prime, so Classics is superflous and sort of the run of the litter. Plus SG Prime is much more worthy of having complete leg panels (even though it doesnt have the light silver paint app)

I cant complain. considering what it is and what I paid. Im super jazzed. Im glad you found one too. You will enjoy it. Do you own a regular SG Prime? I do not. so the test shot is my first SG Prime.
