Ok I am new to transformers and need to know a few things. 1. How do I start collecting Transformers now that I want to? 2. How do I figure out my favorite character? 3. How do I know what is rare and common? And any other information I should know about transformers. YJ
1.Go to the store or online sites like eBay, HasbroToyShop and our sponsers & buy them. 2.I'd suggest going here and start looking up a ton of TF's to find a favorite. 3.If you get stumped on a figures rareity or price, just ask on the forums, usually the older it is the rarer and therefore more expensive.
1. Get money 2. Uh... just pick one? 3. Transformers Wiki - TFwiki.net is a good place to start. Knowing what is rare and common is kind of pointless if you don't want to collect those figures. Find out which ones you want to collect first.
Well in stores, you prolly want to start getting some Universe deluxes. There pretty popular and if you find them at Walmart pretty cheap. I suggest going to the Collection Showcase forum and take a look at other peoples collections to get ideas. Also if you haven't read the comics or watched all the cartoons, maybe start getting some TPB's and hit up Youtube for episodes.
1.Go and find one that you like the most, either online or in stores. 2.Watch the shows and you can decide from there. 3.Like said before usually the older it is the rarer it is. Also depends on what is higher in demand.
1) I would recommend going to your local Wal-mart/Target/Meijer's/Toys R Us/Kohl's etc. etc. and start by buying any and all Universe and Animated figures available. This will give you a fantastic start with some well-made(mostly) and great looking transformers. Then, once you've done that, go to e-bay or another auction website(or the Junkion Exchange on this website) and search for figures of your choice. I would recommend picking a side(Autobot or Decepticon) and buy those to start. 2) I would recommend watching episodes of any of the cartoons(preferably G1, Animated, Armada, and Beast Wars for best results) to determine your favorite character. You like a great heroic leader who is wise, just, and kind? Go for Optimus Prime. You like an evil leader who is cunning, brutal, and nihilistic? Go for Megatron or Galvatron. You like a loudmouth yet courageous, young yet intelligent punk? Go for Bumblebee. You like a backbiting, powerhungry, malicious punk(I'll bet he tore the wings off of flies when he was little)? Go for Starscream(my personal favorite). Then buy any and all figures of that character, it will be very satisfying. 3) The older it is, the more it will probably be worth(although sometimes this might not be true-but usually is). Any exclusive(especially Botcon, Lucky Draws, OTFCC, Japanese-only, Various Store exclusives, etc.) will be rarer and hold more value. Also, I've noticed, the larger the figure(especially Leader, Supreme, or Base Classes), the more value it will hold as well in the future. Welcome to the wonderful addiction that is Transformers! Better this than alcohol or drugs, because those are bad, m'kay? Remember, never spend above your means, and don't try to collect them all(unless you're Miasboytoy), it will drive you insane, or into the poorhouse(again, unless you're Miasboytoy). MODERATION. I can't stress it enough. SAVE EARLY, SAVE OFTEN(wait, are we talking about role-playing games? I forgot) Any new, interested fan is a good thing, because this means more will be made in the future, eh? Don't let the rest of these sarcastic misers fool you, they are happy as well.
1) & 2): I would use the TF wiki and the resource page on this board to look at the different lines ( from G1 to current ) and see what strikes you best. 3) Rarity is tricky most of the G1 stuff you could call rare the G1 Japan only stuff certainly ranks as rare to some. Then the impossible to find stuff like the Lucky Draws. The Con stuff as well.
1. Throw a farewell party for your money, because that's where some (or much) of it will going to. Then check online for which figures/lines you like and go from there. Walmart and Toys R Us are places that seem to be well-stocked in my area. Target seems to be stripped bare or left with only the shelfwarmers, holidays or no. Big Bad Toy Store and TFSource are good sources for all kinds of things; I've also had some success finding stuff on Toy Arena and Treasure Island at decent prices. eBay should be reserved if 1. you find something in good condition at an unusually cheap price or 2. it is rare item you can't readily find online or in stores. 2. Watch the cartoons or the film, and any character or characters you grow attached to and/or find more interesting than the others, that's a good start. Sometimes, consistent coolness of the toys the character can also help, once you start looking. 3. The older it is, the harder it is to find (at least, in good condition) and the pricier it will be. For current lines, only certain things qualify as rare (that clear Henkei Classics Optimus Prime comes to mind).
