Not sure if anyone has tried this before but think it's worth a look. A slight modification in transformation to avoid the 'downwards' head for Ironhide.

    from HK-TF forum.

That's... how I've had it since I got the guy. It helps, but I wouldn't say it's a real fix to the problem.

If you keep them outside the "backpack", but turn the wheels up, it'll fix the head issue (mostly) and make it look like he has a jet pack-thingy.

Edit for the addition of pictures.

Hmmm, I'll have to try this when I get a chance.

That's looks interesting. If it's possible, could we have a look of the front? Thank you.

What about that stupid ridge in the middle of the tire that goes all the way around it? What about grinding that off?

Actually, That's close to what I did, but I didn't touch the wheel.

This guide MattBooker.info Blog Archive Ironhide Week Part 1 helped me out modding my Ironhide. Came out pretty good. Didn't mess with the last step, though (putting the head on a balljoint).

I'm leaving mine as-is. That way Titanium Roddy and Universe Onslaught can have another buddy to hang out and stare at the ground with. Maybe I'll get some little plastic chickens so they can at least have a cock fight to watch.

I won't mod it, I like Ironhide looking down, he looks like an old raging bull.
