As most know when G1 began its toy run it was a mix of other jap toylines such as diaclone put into the "Transformers" universe.. Allright here is my question, when did Hasbro take over with making all new molds that where not from "other toy brands".. What TF's where the very first Hasbro born molds to become the first home grown transformers to the transformers brand name so to speak.. Alot of peaple point out that when this came about, thats when the line started to go south/downhill.. So when did the "others" end, and the home grown Hasbro molds/toys begin? (What I find ironic is alot of non-hardcore fans that only like G1, are actually more fans of the diaclone toys and "others" rather then the home grown molds made for the transformers brand itself, and they dont realize this because they are not hardcore on the TF history) So anyways, when did the Hasbro molds start, who where they, when did everything go south lol
I can't remember what year of G1 it was (did a little research on this myself out of boredom), but it wasn't too far into G1 till Hasbro and Takara started to come up with new molds for the line. It wasn't that that doomed the line, but more or less their eventual turn to mostly futuristic designs and gimmicks that did it. Killing off well liked characters solely to put out new toys and sell them didn't help. Also putting all the blame on Hasbro isn't really fair, imo.
I would say if hasbro didn't step in, diaclone would end up alot less popular comparing to transformers today. Same case with Robotech/Macross.
I think the movie toys were the first original TF molds. Although they still used old molds after that. Like Ultra Magnus.
Yeah, I'd say the movie toys were the first original ones. Kup, Hot Rod, Blurr, Cyclonus, Scourge, etc.
Besides, the question was about when Hasbro first started to produce its own moulds, which would have been '85-86, for the movie line. Beast Wars wasn't till years later. But yeah, at the time, Kenner was a subdivision of Hasbro, so technically Hasbro were still producing the figs.
This is what I kind of know about but this is in a nut-shell on how it started. Pre-TF were around in the 1970s and early 1980s that were developed by Takara. 1974-1984--Microman and Diaclone (1980-1984). Apparently sales for both lines were failing. In 1982--Car robots were developed. Hasbro bought the licenses in 1983 and promoted the line as Transformers in 1984. Hasbro designed the factions and gave the characters names and personalities. In terms of when Hasbro developed their o wn molds was 1986 because all of the molds for 1984 and 1985 are from the two Japanese toylines.
