Excellent thread. Thanks for posting these pics, it's interesting to compare the different paint jobs. I personally much prefer the Henkei color jobs, with the exception of Ramjet's forearms and feet.

Very nice, thanks :)  It is nice to see them side-by-side for a proper comparison.

By the way, you and I made the same mistake with our Hasbro Prowl; we didn't pull his feet out :lol

Hm...Henkei seem to have better paint job. And no, i'm not saying this because the small chrome touch ups. But i already have my classics so..well, actually not Astrotrain, if i have to pick a version of him it will be the Henkei edition.

Yes I do, right now I am trying to catch up on my Diamond busts. Then I will be back on the Universe / Henkei line. I have to get the U.S. ultras yet but I figured I got time since the Henkei version just came out. The wife does not want me to buy anything else until after christmas now but I will post updates in this thread. When I do get the figures.

I know for a fact that I want the Takara Powerglide, and not the Hasbro one...but I like seeing comparisons of everyone else...

Nice thread this makes a very useful resource. On the whole I prefer what Takara is doing, but thats nothing new. I was interested to see Henkei Prowl has a totally different light bar to Classics (obviously to represent typical Japanese Police lightbars), is that the only instance of Takara remolding for Henkei?

Very nice pics! Thanks! Actually, no, wait, I don't thank you at all! Cause now I want all of these! Anyway, I knew I wanted Megs and probably Optimus, but your pics really sold me on how much better the BB and Hot Rod are too. I also hadn't seen pics of the Henkei JF, and I love that Skyfire deco on him.

Thanks for the comparisons. I prefer the Henkei versions of Megatron and Astrotrain and wish I had those instead. I also prefer the Henkei versions of Optimus, Bumblebee, Rodimus and Starscream, but am fine with Hasbro's because of their cheaper pricetag (might consider the new Hasbro Starscream when he comes out). I'd take Sunstreaker, Prowl and Mirage, but because of the chrome spoilers, I'm content with Hasbro. As for Jetfire, Grimlock and Ramjet, Hasbro's the way to go. Henkei: Jetfire, not fond of the blue, Grimlock is too shiny and Ramjet's wings are too bright of a red.

Awesome comparison pics! Thanks for going through the effort. You need to swap the helmets on the Jetfires. The red eye helmet of the Henkei version looks perfect on the US version, it makes him look like jetfire. The Henkei with no helmet is my Skyfire.

Nice photo work, but by golly, LIFT up that trailer hitch on Bumblebee's back, so you can close up the back end of the torso properly! :)

Rankings (all my opinion, of course)
    Optimus: Classics
Megatron: toss-up with no nostalgia, Henkei for nostalgia
    Jetfire: Classics
    Starscream: Henkei-robot Classics-jet
    Hot Rodimus: Henkei-robot Classics-car
    Bumblebee: Classics
    Astrotrain: Henkei
    Mirage: Classics
    Grimlock: Classics
    Ramjet: Classics
    Prowl: toss-up
    Sunstreaker: toss-up

Nice comparison pics. It really helps show the differences between the two lines. Out of the ones shown I like the Henkei Megatron, Prime, and Astrotrain better than the Classics figures but probably won't get them because of the price. The others I like better in Classics/Universe although Ramjet is a toss up. The Bumblebee from the new Wal-Mart 3-pack looks better than both the original Classics version and Henkei version. 25th Anniversary Starscream is shaping up to be better than the Classics and Henkei versions also.

hmm.. very interesting. thank you for posting these.
now if only we could have the best of both worlds - Hasbro and Takara should really put their heads together and come up with one really solid release for these molds.

also, i would have to (for the most part) agree with this:

**sorry, this was the lazy man's quote**

the Astrotrain looks fantastic in both paint jobs, but the ramjet just looks boring for the Henkei line IMHO.

Almost every Henkei version is better. The exception to this rule IMO is Ramjet (Henkei version is more G1 but I like hasbro version better regardless), Grimlock, and I actually prefer the Hasbro version of Jetfire considerably over the Henkei version. Still, I bought the Hasbro versions of most of them, except I bought a few Henkeis while I was in Tokyo. Prime and Starscream since I missed out on the Hasbro version, and luckily I did because the Henkei versions are far superior. Although I had the Hasbro version, I bought a Henkei Astrotrain, and he was damn near impossible to find, seems to be a rarity in Japanese retail stores.

Overall, the Henkai versions look better, but not an extra $15 better.

Except maybe Astrotrain and Megatron. They might be worth it. As for the others, Classics is fine, and in some cases, better.

Looks like you may not've completely transformed the legs on Universe Prowl properly/completely (the feet pull out farther from inside the car piece).

That said, nice pictures, great side by sides, shows how some are better than their counterpart, and adds to my *facepalm* at things like Grimlock's bitchin' shiny pants.

Your Hasbro Prowl is so clean! :(  Mine is all dirty with his sticky paint plague...
