Animated Blitzwing has huge tank treads underneath his plane mode. Huge. Tank. Treads. And people like this?
It's all part of his charm. Crazy bot tries to fit as much of two scanned alt forms onto his frame. That being said, I'd have preferred more rectangular ones so they weren't QUITE so huge. :/ ~Matt Booker

So... after all that. You still agree. He. Has. Huge. Tank Treads. Charm only last so long. No one would display this Playskool bot in alt mode.
I wouldn't' call him a Playskool bot. In fact, I like him so much I've written a rather hilarious guide on how to mod him. Awesomer Blitzwing - A Step By Step ADVENTURE by Matt Booker - TFormers Community Skim that and see if there's not even a glimmer of like in you for Blitzwing. I think his tank mode is awesome. It's full of h.i.s.s. and win. He's full of personality, and is great fun posing for pictures or just on display. I've got him in jet mode on the shelf, even. But I'm admittedly biased. I'd have a harder time accepting his jet mode if he wasn't such a great character. His tank and bot modes stand solidly on their own, though. He's finally dethroned Cybertron Mode Optimus Prime as my favorite tf. So, yeah, he could've used some smaller tank treads in jet mode. But that's one flaw out of a whole lot of awesome. Again, I'm biased about Blitzwing, but that's a common thing. (Just check his feedback thread.) ~Matt Booker
