I recently started collecting transformers again and I have a few questions. Is starting with G1 Toys the best place to start or should I continue buying the Transformers Encore Series? I recently starting buying the Transformers Encore Series and bought Sky Lynx. I do realize that collecting Transformers again is expensive but I just need a bit of direction with the collecting. THANKS!

G1 stuff is gonna set you back quite a bit. I suggest aiming for the more recent stuff like classics/henkei and if you like it, animated.

Encore's good too. Keep with that. And good hunting!

Well only a few months ago when I was picking up more g1's I went the route of the diaclone type cars, seekers, triple changers, and cassetes with a few big guys. jetfire, soundwave, and sixshot.

I'd recommend you check out the tfw2005 junkion exchange forum. Most people here actually sell at between bargain or fair price in my opinion. I got a ton of g1 originals here, just got trailbreaker, ironhide and ratchet for $36 shipped the other day. Go check it out. I think you'll see what I mean.

I would focus on the ones you want first but get the encores now since they will probably go up in price later. Also have you checked out Classics/Universe? AWESOME updates of G1 toys. Great stuff there too.

I would definitely pick up any Transformers you find on sale or on clearance. They might not seem interesting now but purchasing them later can cost a lot more. If you don't like them you can always sell them or trade them.

Always keep your eyes on the Junkion Exchange.. many good G1'ers in there. I've built most of my collection from there!

If you have the money, you can go for G1 figures but they will set you back, however, you can stick with the reissues (Japanese box-style and encores) for the characters that are not the Classics lines. Sometimes you can find good deal from fellow board members.

As what has been said above. Start out with the Classics excellent homeage to G1. then later on slowly start with the original G1s (Encore or TFC). You will find some good deals on them in the Junkion. I have a MIB Classics Jetfire if you want. PM me if you are interested.
