I prefer Animated personally, but classics is amazing too. I'm going all out on Animated but I'll certainly be trying to get as many Universe figures as I possibly can.

    animated vs henkei.

i look at toys on an individual basis, eg i prefer henkei BB over animated BB but prefer voyager optimus over the henkei optimus.

I guess overall henkei/classics are less prone to QC issues. Ultimately I enjoy both, to my eyes they beat the pants off both the last 2 main lines (cybertron/movie).

After buying some of animated. It kind of delivers. It's certainly not bad, but I'm not satisfied by any one toy in the line, it sort of requires the whole line to be satifactory and awesome. That's just how I feel. I'm not going to be happy with animated until the dinobots, magnus, and perhaps even to the point of shockwave, blurr and jetfire/jetstorm are purchased.

also just to throw this in there I found tf animated fruit snacks at blooms (grocery chain) and they taste exactly like thunder sharks my favorite 80s fruit snack side by side with thunder jets, ratchet is the brother of the old great white.

    anyway..
classics always delivers on every figure. You can nitpick things sure. Like rodimus's hinges or powrglides proportions,
but I feel they have more weapons, articulation and detail to be appreciated (and a heavier amount of homages).

as for henkei well I still have my original classics set from two years ago.
so I lean heavily towards hasbro since its domestic and convenient.
Just pointing that out. If you can afford it and don't have classics yet, henkei would do fine.

classics rocks!! I'm hunting for every toy in the universe line!!
animated is going to be hot though for the kids though I can really see a new generation of future hard core transformer fans growing up with it. And remembering the animated fruit snacks just as well as I remember thunder sharks. Puts things in perspective.

If offered a choice between Animated and Classics, I would choose Classics without even a second thought and would never look back.

I really do like Classics, but the thing that I love so much about Animated is that matte finish on everything. Its just makes all of them stand out so much more and is really visually appealing.

I have only 3 shelves to play with. I am putting almost every movie figure in storage, and filling one shelf with nothing but Animated, one with G1/Classics and then one of Alternators and a few assorted extras.

I think no matter what, the toys of this year and next are probably the best toys I have ever seen.

If I had been asked this question two months ago. (Before I had any animated figs.) I would have said that Classics 'whips Animated's tater!"
But now that I've bought a few Animated figs I wouldn't dare say that. I haven't loved a TF line like I do Animated since Classics 1.0 came out.

Animated figs IMHO have the most "personality" (I don't know if I sound silly saying this or not but it's the best way I can describe it.) of any that I've ever owned. Plus they give me that nostalgic feeling so strongly that I feel like a kid again getting my first G1's!

Classics give me what I've been wanting to see out of my favorite G1 characters. Completely updated modern versions, with great articulation and awesome details!

The two lines are both so different from each other that, (for me anyways) it's like comparing apples to oranges. I'd have to say that I can't really decide which one is better so I'll just have to go with the fall back position that I love 'em both.

    ok

I find Animated a much needed breath of fresh air. I Love each and every figure Ive purchased. for the first time in like forever I find myself transforming each and every one over and over and actually playing with my toys. something I havent done since Beast Wars. I own the entire Unicron Trilogy and can honestly say i spent next to no time at all with each figure, i would Transform them look at them and toss em in a bin. as long as Animated stays fresh and keeps past toyline invading repaints out of the picture I will forever be in absolute love with Animated.

Agreed. These figures have character - in a way that we really haven't seen in a TF line.

    And this

    Also agree.

Eh, I personally don't think its fair to compare the two. They're both good in different ways. If it came down to just one over the other, I'd have to go with Classics, but only if that includes the upcoming Universe/Classics/25th Ann. line, as it seems to have more potential in it, and will most likely be around longer than Animated, imo.

We all know you hate Animated, but comparing them to the movies FAB's isn't really fair. They look nothing like them. Also, saying that anybody that disagrees with you is in denial is just plain wrong. I don't like G1, but I don't go around telling people who do like it that their in denial. I have no problem with you stating your opinion, but don't go around telling people that theirs is wrong, which is essentially what you've just said.

The first line to make an Arcee with a futuristic car alt-mode wins.

    ...wow.

    No

    Just no.

Me personally, I don't like Animated. The asthetic, which carried over perfectly from the show imo, just turns me off. It's not that it's bad, it's just not my tastes. I plan on getting a few key Animated figs, but I'll be skipping the vast majority. I will admit that they do look like fun toys and the engineering on some is amazing, but they're just not my style.

Classics/Universe on the otherhand is exactly what I want. Realistic alt modes with 'robotic' robots, armed to the teeth and covered in details. Even the repaints look great to me. I got most of the original Classics, and intend to get most of the rest eventually, and plan to get most of the Universe figures as well.

Again, it's not really a case of me thinking one thing is better then the other, it's just one suits my tastes while the other doesn't.

    :lol

See, now that's the right way to state your opinions. Not shove it down other people's throats.

There is no comparison between the two. Animated and Classics have completely different aesthetics and appeal to different audiences. A few have already mentioned the apples vs. oranges saga, but it bears repeating.

Personally, I'll get any TF from any line that I like and can afford. That's all the justification I need.

    ...wha?

First off, the toys are based on the cartoon depictions of the characters. Therefore it is safe to assume that the toys would, in fact, look cartoony. It's kind of the whole idea, dude.

Second, all toys are fragile to an extent. I'm curious whether you even have any Animated toys (with or without QC issues), or if you're just basing your opinion on the statements of some people who do own them (and have had QC issues). In either case, here is a counter: I own every regular Animated toy that has been officially released so far, and not a single one has had any QC issues. There are several others on these boards who've had no problems either.

And finally - "Poorly designed?" The toys are near-perfect representations of their cartoon counterparts and they still transform into equally accurate alt modes. How is that poor design when no other cartoon-based TF line has been able to do it (excluding MP)? Now, if you're referring to the aesthetic, then you really can't fault the toys for that.

    WIN! :D

My shelf on the left contains all of my Classics/Henkei/Universe/Custom Autobots. My shelf on the right contains all of my Animated Autobots. I'm not picking one line over the other. XP

Though if I had to, we've got a better chance of future lines fitting in with my left shelf. =(

    I am loving both!

    Making me broke!!

Dont get me wrong there are figs from both lines that I probably wont buy but I
really love the TFA show and that made me buy more than I planned on originally!

I love Classics but not enough to buy the Henkei versions. They are just too pricey. I will just buy the US released versions.
